Early one October morning.

Ah, there he is, Old Scratchy, posing for his photograph amongst the heather.

I think the boys prefer this season's weather to that of Summer. It's obviously cooler in the mornings, and there seem to be more deer around for them to chase (they put the bejeezes up 2 yesterday morning).

And here's Monty saying "Look at me Bok, I've only got 3 legs, ha ha ha". He is a wag!

Aaaaah. When we returned home the boys were sniffing around this poor little Blackbird on the lawn (yes, that is our lawn). I imagine it's a fledgling; it wasn't too happy when I picked him up.

I asked him what was wrong; he just squawked at me, so I let him go. There's no pleasing some birds!

  1. That's a great picture of Bok (he looks like he is going a bit grey around the snout)

  2. 2 beautiful slim dogs! So many labrador types are allowed to get fat……I can't bear to see overweight dogs..it is so unkind to the dog. I looked out of the window yesterday, and there were 4 blackbirds in the garden and on the bird bath…lovely birds. One of them flew up and perched just a foot below my window, cocked his head and looked up at me for what seemed ages!

    1. I don't think he's 100% Lab'. It's usually those pure breed stumpy ones who tend to look overweight. We've been very aware that he might get fat, so he's watched quite attentively.

  3. Saw "our" robin this morning, haven't seen it for weeks, thought the cat had eaten it.

  4. Your title suggests 'just as the sun was rising' - yes Tess likes that time of day too. Has your dog really got a leg missing or is it just the way he is photographed? My son has a three-legged cat and he seems to manage perfectly well.

    1. At the moment mine don't go out until about 7.30am; up until then it's still dark.

  6. They are SO like the dogs in our lives. We don't have a dog of our own anymore, but do do Doggy Day Care for our daughter and granddaughter's dogs. Off to fetch Coda now, who is so like Monty (four long legs) and are having Sammie, who also is always scratching, tonight. The black labs seem to have such expressive faces don't they?

    1. It's surprising how many people have pairs of similar dogs; maybe it's because they compliment each other so well.

  8. Your dogs always look so soft and gentle Cro …… and probably as silly as lights { and I mean that in a loving way !! }
    It seems as if the birds have all come back to our garden in the last week. This morning I saw two blue tits clinging to the brickwork….. searching for insects in the wall I think.XXXX
