Whilst millions of 'Swifties' were up in Edinburgh, even more millions were enjoying Oasis at London's O2.
This is my daughter-in-Law Susie looking down on the heaving crowds, with little Liam Gallagher singing to the best of his ability, way in the distance.
So, I hear you ask, why was she (and Kimbo) so far from the stage?
Well, they were guests of someone who had a very exclusive 'box'; the O2 call them 'Encore Suites'. They were there to natter and drink fizzy wine, all to the backdrop of some well-attended concert.
And, if (like me) you wish to know what it costs to be so far from the action, I looked it up. These very exclusive 'Encore Suites' cost £195,000 plus VAT per annum.
Worth every penny!
I guess that one of the downsides of living in a hamlet in the Perigord region of south western France is that you don't get big pop concerts there.
ReplyDeleteI do have Spotify, so I can at least have a one-man concert.
DeleteI thought "Spotify" was a cream for tackling pimples and zits. Does anybody get boils any more?
DeleteOnly on their bottoms!
DeleteMany venues, or venues within venues, are hired for corporate hospitality - either to schmooze with future potential clients or rewarding their big earners (sales). Part and parcel of a company's overheads to pay handsome dividends. I don't know what Kimbo does for a living but - with (if I remember correctly) his links to Dubai - £195,000/yr is peanuts.

It certainly didn't come out of his pockets, he was simply an influential invitee.
DeleteThat's what I meant.

Even that box would be too near to the action for me! Give me your simple life in France any day!
ReplyDeleteI always thought of Oasis as a cheap, Manchester, version of the Beatles. They didn't even come close!
DeleteI don't think there is any person or band I would suffer that crowd for.
ReplyDeleteNor me these days. Nor did they have such vast arenas when I was younger.
DeleteI would go out of my way to avoid that crowd.
ReplyDeleteI think they were well-placed being so far away.
DeleteMy granddaughters went to a concert last night. Thousands of people dancing, prancing muscians, lights and noise.
ReplyDeleteIf I was far away and high up like your children and with a comfy chair and a glass of fizz I might possibly enjoy a concert . Or I might not
I must say, it wouldn't have been my cup of Tea. The last concert we went to was 'The Bootleg Beatles', it was fantastic!!!
DeleteViewing from a box like this is wonderful. Comfortable seats and accommodations.
ReplyDeleteMy experience is, successful business owners/executives purchase the box and it is usually a corporate expense. (In the US, being a business expense, it is a total write-off as a cost of doing business.) Entertaining existing or potential customers and/or working to improve a business relationship is all part of the networking game.
That's it, in a nutshell. Corporate expense is never REAL expense.
