Bhangra

I bought my first Bhangra album back in the early 80's. I was enthralled by the music's energy and enthusiasm. I didn't know at the time that there was a specific dance that accompanied it.

Those who have watched Rick Stein's Indian cookery videos will have seen a group of Bhangra dancing boys in the opening credits. They have such a feeling of joy about them, it's hard not to become enthralled.

Here are some rather older dancers, in everyday outfits, showing us how to do it. Fixed smiles, plenty of energy, and their arms in the air; what's not to like? Bhangra would make great exercise music.

    1. Slightly beyond me, I'm afraid. But I can still listen to the music.

  2. And there I was waiting for a blog post of yours full of the joys of you and Lady M preparing for your return to France's bosom, frantically polishing the Brighton abode, Billy already sensing that trouble is brewing..

    1. All of that is true, but I thought I'd save you the tedium.

  3. It is a shame that you are off to France very soon as you could have signed up for Bhangra classes at The Brighton & Hove Dance Centre.

  5. Fantastic. I woke up feeling a bit under the weather. My carer showered me and helped me dress. The heavy shower has passed and the sun is shining on my garden full of purple and pink. Sitting here and watching Bhangra has perked me up wonderfully. Can't wait to show my neighbour - and very keen dancer. Thank you Cro - you have made my day!

    1. Bhangra is so wonderfully energetic. I love most things to do with India.

  6. The dance is early hip-hop. Energizing and high spirited. The music reminded me of that being played by a snake charmer.

    1. Nothing is original, it all hails from somewhere! I've seen snake charmers in Morocco; they weren't very exciting.

  7. The whole routine would keep a person in shape. My version would have to be a lot more low key and lower to the ground everywhere. :)
