Happy (are you serious?) Birthday Cro.

I'm 78 years old today, and I feel about 90. We had planned a visit to our only remaining good nearby restaurant tonight, but I don't have the heart for it.

I shall prepare a simple Magret de Canard instead, with a few chips and some salad. I know it'll be lovely, and I'll save about 100 Euros. Now I really do know I'm getting old!

    1. We have a nice HD TV, but our dish is no longer compatible. I'm watching old Rick Stein programmes on a 'plug-in'; one each day.

  13. Happy Birthday, I hope it's a good day.

I hope you enjoy your duck, oh and saving 100 euros doesn't mean you're getting old ... just sensible. And of course staying home means you can finish the bottle of red to go with it ... even more sensible. ;-)

    1. You're quite right of course.... in the days of austerity et al. And it'll be a GOOD bottle of red to accompany it.

As it happens my father will turn 87 (78 read backwards) in a few days' time. Whatever you do ... don't ...

Cro, wishing you many happy [and less painful] returns of the day.

  17. I also wish you a happy birthday and hope you can address the health issues and resolve pain. Nobody should be in this much pain. Have you considered going "private?" My British sister-in-law did go private. She has no regrets as the surgeon discovered colon cancer that required immediate surgery. She is fine today.

    1. It will be almost as good, and a lot cheaper; and that's fine by me. I don't think it'll be a particularly warm evening for eating at our usual outdoor table.

  29. Sounds like you had a good birthday in spite of your aches and pains. Sorry the phone call didn't work out. Perhaps I should call your cellphone next time. I wonder whether you eat any supplements to help your joints, if that is the problem. I know that I have been better since I started having hemp seeds and oil on my morning porridge. It seems to be a wonder plant.
