I'm 78 years old today, and I feel about 90. We had planned a visit to our only remaining good nearby restaurant tonight, but I don't have the heart for it.
I shall prepare a simple Magret de Canard instead, with a few chips and some salad. I know it'll be lovely, and I'll save about 100 Euros. Now I really do know I'm getting old!
Happy Birthday Crozier! Trump is also 78. I'm just sayin'! You're nothing like him. Hope you enjoy tonight's nosh.
ReplyDeleteThank you YP. Yes we'll have a pleasant evening at home. I'm just not feeling like going out.
DeleteHappy birthday Cro. Hope you feel better soon. x
ReplyDeleteThanks Sue. All aches and pains today I'm afraid. It'll pass.
DeleteGo and buy yourself a television. Happy Birthday.
ReplyDeleteWe have a nice HD TV, but our dish is no longer compatible. I'm watching old Rick Stein programmes on a 'plug-in'; one each day.
DeleteA new cable then.
DeleteYes. We just haven't been bothered.
DeleteHappy Birthday Cro. You have a twin. Mireille Mathieu is also 78 today. You could give her a call and celebrate together.
ReplyDeleteThe lovely MM? That's interesting. It's also a cousin of mine's birthday today, but he's 10 years older.
DeleteHappy birthday Cro, I'msure the sun will shine on you all day xfrom Val and Poppy
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit cloudy at the moment, but they tell me the sun will shine later. We might even manage a swim.
DeleteHappy Birthday Cro. Have a lovely day and enjoy your meal.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carol. Other than my aches and pains, the day is looking good.
DeleteHappy birthday Cro. Enjoy your quiet birthday meal. Drink an extra glass or 2. I will drink one to your better health.
ReplyDeleteI picked more peppers today and will be trying one of your recipes again.
We had a big plate of those little green Peppers yesterday. What wonderful little things they are!
DeleteHappy birthday, Cro. I hope you find something fun to do. xx
ReplyDeleteI've just been giving pool cleaning instructions; does that count as fun?
DeleteHappy birthday Cro, I wish you all the best in the world.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Yael. I think of you every day. Stay safe, xx
DeleteThanks Cro, you are indeed a good friend.
DeleteHappy Birthday from me too. I hope that all your aches and pains take the day off.
ReplyDeleteI'm still searching for my Magic Wand. No luck so far.
DeleteHappy Birthday , you have caught me up again! Have a lovely day with a swim.
ReplyDeleteIt's a grand old age. I'm now looking forward to 80; only two years to go!
DeleteA few glasses of something good will take the edge off the pain! Have a good birthday.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'll open something nice tonight; none of that cheap plonk that I usually drink.
DeleteHappy Birthday, I hope it's a good day.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy your duck, oh and saving 100 euros doesn't mean you're getting old ... just sensible. And of course staying home means you can finish the bottle of red to go with it ... even more sensible. ;-)
You're quite right of course.... in the days of austerity et al. And it'll be a GOOD bottle of red to accompany it.
DeleteHappy Birthday dear Cro!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jennifer.
DeleteHappy Birthday - and perhaps a small walk out with Billy.
ReplyDeleteI need to keep moving, so perhaps a little 'ball throwing'.
DeleteHappy Birthday, Cro. I hope you enjoy a special day with Lady M.
ReplyDeleteI will indeed; we're both taking it easy. She has a bad knee. What a couple we make!
DeleteCongratulations.
ReplyDeleteAs it happens my father will turn 87 (78 read backwards) in a few days' time. Whatever you do ... don't ...
Cro, wishing you many happy [and less painful] returns of the day.
U
Thank you Ursula. I second the 'less painful' part.
DeleteI also wish you a happy birthday and hope you can address the health issues and resolve pain. Nobody should be in this much pain. Have you considered going "private?" My British sister-in-law did go private. She has no regrets as the surgeon discovered colon cancer that required immediate surgery. She is fine today.
ReplyDeleteGoodness me; that was fortuitous. No I haven't really considered it for myself, but it's always an option.
DeleteHappy BIrthday Cro - have a lovely day and enjoy your meal this evening. I'm sure it will be just as good, if not better, than the 100 euro one.
ReplyDeleteIt will be almost as good, and a lot cheaper; and that's fine by me. I don't think it'll be a particularly warm evening for eating at our usual outdoor table.
DeleteHappy Birthday! Relax and enjoy the summer.
ReplyDeleteThe sun is shining, and it's a warmish (22 C) afternoon. I'm thinking of going for a swim.
DeleteWishing you a lovely birthday Cro. Hopefully with a bit less pain, but one with good wine and food.
ReplyDeleteI'm taking what pills I have. I'm not sure if they help or not.
DeleteWishing you a pain -free Happy Birthday Cro, a lovely meal and wine to follow sitting at home, sounds delightful.
ReplyDeleteJo
I might even light a fire tonight; just for the ambiance.
DeleteHappy birthday, Cro. I hope a nice glass of wine or two with dinner eases the aches and pains.
ReplyDeleteRed wine is a well-known analgesic; at least that's my story!
DeleteHappy Birthday Cro! DH and I celebrated our 79 this month too (our unexpected gift was Covid - but whatever...) Hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteI hope your brush with Covid is now over. What a horrible illness it has been.
DeleteHappy birthday Cro, you've got 8 years on me!Hope you enjoy your meal and that the pain lessens too. Have a good one!
ReplyDeleteWe've just finished our meal, it was lovely. And a little Yog' with honey to finish.
DeleteWarmest wishes for a lovely birthday - despite your discomfort - good, healthy health in this new year of your life. No doubt in my mind you and your lovely wife will have an en joyable repast. From the base of the mini-mountain in Maine where my garden beckons me to go out and play.
ReplyDeleteI had a very short but uncomfortable swim this afternoon; I played with the dog later. Life goes on.
DeleteMany happy returns, shame you can't have a virtual party.
ReplyDeleteNext year maybe!!!
DeleteLove and happiness today and the coming year my dearest young man.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much GP, the coming year may prove a bit challenging.
DeleteHappy, happy birthday Cro and hope you have had a lovely day. Aftr a few glasses of something nice, I hope you feel 21 again ! XXXX
ReplyDelete21 again would be lovely, but I'd happily go for 70, when I was still 100% mobile.
DeleteSounds like you had a good birthday in spite of your aches and pains. Sorry the phone call didn't work out. Perhaps I should call your cellphone next time. I wonder whether you eat any supplements to help your joints, if that is the problem. I know that I have been better since I started having hemp seeds and oil on my morning porridge. It seems to be a wonder plant.
ReplyDeleteI used to drink Walnut oil every morning, maybe I should start that again.
DeleteHappy Birthday, Cro. Sorry about your aches and pains. Please improve and go spend those Euros on dinner.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joanne, I'm sure we shall at some time. I just need to deal with the pain issue first. It makes life miserable.
DeleteA tumble down the stairs is guaranteed to have you feeling rough the following day. Happy birthday. You can celebrate on the weekend.
ReplyDeleteThe stairs are not ideal either. Solid wood with lots of chunky sharp edges. I'm amazed I didn't do more damage.
DeleteHappy Birthday - enjoy all of the treats.
