La Potterie Provencale Ceramic production in Biot.

This lovely old-fashioned pottery in Biot, Provence, is where I ordered my green glazed plates, that we use for 'special' occasions. I found this short video totally fascinating.

I now rather regret that I didn't order some small side plates to go with them.

I keep looking for something suitable, but as yet no luck. I may have to go to a local Pottery Fair, and get someone to make some for me.

  1. Definitely.. support your local potter..I'm sure that they would be making something to complement those plates.

    1. I do go to local potters for all sorts of things; I've even had roof pinnacles specially made for me.

  3. When I am laying the table and we have guests I am always surprised by the weight of a dinner plate. Grabbing 4 or more with one hand is a bit of a struggle with arthritis having sits little games. If I win the lottery I think I would go for porcelain .....

    1. My preference is for rustic pottery. You're right, they can be heavy, but peasant folk were built to carry big piles of them!

  4. I have admired those plates before. There seems to be nothing like them in England. I looked for them at the Cley Pottery but even they didn't have them. Perhaps I should have asked them to make me one.

    1. I'm very glad I had them made for us; we love using them. I expect it was the man in the video who made them; M Augé-Laribé.

    1. What skill and invention. I would never have imagined they were made that way.

  6. I bought some rather similar but in a deep blue from a roadside pottery deep in the Turkish countryside many years ago. Have always regretted not buying more than I did.

    1. That sounds equally good. I love finding potters who make things that are not only useful, but are also beautiful.

    1. I found it rather boring, and I think others did too.
