Canine Comfort.

I've noticed for years that Bok (our dog) likes to lie on my feet when having a short snooze. I've also noticed that when outdoors he will lie on the hosepipe or a child's toy, or an old flower pot, rather than chose somewhere more classically comfortable.

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't be able to sleep for one instant if I was lying in bed on top of an old shoe, so one has to presume that a dog's idea of comfort is very different to that of a human.

It makes you wonder why we go to all that trouble (and expense) to buy big, comfy, snooze-a-while, chew proof, dog baskets, and especially all those down-filled mattresses and angora blankets, to make them feel comfortable, if they'd be just as happy sleeping on a pile of angry hedgehogs (or even on a pile of books, as above).

  1. My cat likes to sleep on a bag of coat hangers often wondered why?

  2. How very true, I suppose dogs are basically wild animals and would presumably survive happily in natural surroundings.
I also sometimes wonder at the mentality of people who dress their dogs up in little coats.

    1. I recently saw some pictures of a dog 'grooming' contest in the USA. They were all multi coloured, and trimmed to look like Cowboys, or Lions, or Trump, etc. These people are sick.

  3. Our cat likes nothing better than a plastic carrier bag to curl up on! Ignores the memory foam, sheepskin, basket, etc, in favour of a bag.

    1. Our cat sleeps upstairs on a selection of beds; I don't think he's even once slept in his own cat bed.

  5. So instead of a car with back seat comfort we could have a cardboard box of wellington boots on the floor? Perhaps we should buy that dark blue Mclaren 570GT.

    1. I'm afraid that ours does, when we forget to put chairs on them.

    2. Looking at our two sleeping quite comfortably on the tiled floor, I do wonder why we spent a small fortune on a dog bed for the new dog, which was sniffed once, and then rejected ! I wonder if it's a macho dog thing to climb on the furniture - none of the three bitches has ever attempted to, but all three dogs very quickly took up residence in the most comfortable chair in any room, and took a great deal of persuading to get off the bed !

    3. We might be having a storm (or just rain) this evening so he'll probably end-up on our bed.

  7. I love that pic, it's goofy! I bought a pretty cat bed for our cat when we moved to our new house in March. She put one paw in then reversed out, hasn't been back since. I shall have to think of a way to re-purpose it. Maybe I could shove my feet in it on extra cold Derbyshire nights. I'd look a'proper' ole lady then.
