Those Christmas presents.

We usually go Christmas Present spotting on Boxing Day. Children are often taken out for a walk wearing their oversized jumpers, their ill-fitting new trainers, and their Disney scarves designed for someone half (or twice) their age. They always look awkward, and slightly embarrassed.

Our cold weather has only just arrived, and we're now having mornings around Zero C. Time to bring out those wintery Christmas presents that were put away 'for later'.

My new heavy-knit, 100% Wool, M & S, navy sweater is perfect. I almost feel as if I could climb Mt Everest in it; it's that warm. Thank you Lady M.

Not much of me suffers from cold other than all my head bits (ears, nose, bald-pate, etc), and my feet. The rest of me seems to tolerate sub-zero temperatures reasonably well.

So, when I unpacked my new Christmas prezzie Uggs, I was extremely happy. I have Spring shoes, Summer shoes, and Autumn shoes, but I'd never got round to buying myself furry Winter shoes/boots. These are extremely cosy. Thank you Tenpin.

I think I'm quite well equipped now. It's just a matter of selecting the right clothes for the right weather; I'm not quite so good at that! It's been cold; -5 C this morning.

  1. Good practical Christmas presents. Just what you need for sub zero morning walks. It is a balmy -1C here at the moment.

  2. I have just said on John's blog that I walk around barefoot all the time unless I'm going out. I have never liked wearing anything on my feet indoors but I really should address it in my now old age ! I like your Winter clothes .... they are very ' you ' and classic. XXXX

    1. I'm the same, I'm always barefoot in the house.

  3. What you need now is an outdoor thermometer, positioned so that you can see it from indoors - preferably near the front door. Then you can check the temperature before you venture out, and don the appropriate clothes.

    1. That's a very good idea, we have big sliding glass doors at the back of the house, a fixed thermometer would be perfect.

  4. The thermometer on the outside of my north facing bedroom window was reading minus 8C when I got up this morning just after 8am. Coldest morning so far this year! ( Harpenden). Enjoy your boots. Have you got a woolly hat for your bald pate ?

  5. You received some very cosy presents. I love my furry boots but often forget to wear them. I wear trainers usually but having warm feet is most important. And warm hands!! Hanging out the washing is enough to turn my fingers white.
    How's Billy?

    1. My Uggs are perfect for warm feet. Billy is much better, he's eating again and enjoying his walks. He lost a lot of weight.

  6. I always think I have too many coats, but when I look closer, I see I have a coat for every season, for wet or dry, you are correct, you need the correct items for the weather outside.

    1. I try to have the correct clothes, but I'm not good at choosing them. I don't know why I find it so difficult.

  7. What you also really need is a pink balaclava with a bobble on the top and a Peppa Pig scarf.

    1. I've just got back after my dog-walk. It's a very sunny but cool day here. Really quite nice. My feet were as warm as toast.

  9. Someone is quoted as saying, there is no bad weather, only bad clothing choices. Stay comfortable.

    1. I never seem to get it quite right. I'm always either too hot or too cold.

  10. We're having a very cold week so my Uggs are in full use. I've owned a few pairs over the past 30 years as they last forever and never fail to keep my toes toasty warm. So glad Billy feels better.

    1. We're just back from a walk. He's not 100%, but he's eating and socialising again. We're happy.

  11. Your sweater reminded me of the heavy Irish knit sweaters we bought in Ireland years ago. Not much need for them here, but we're prepared for any Arctic Freeze with them in the closet! Layer up and stay warm!

  12. Your wool Christmas sweater looks excellent and perfect for sub-zero weather. Plus, there is nothing better than Uggs boots to keep your feet cozy on a very cold day. All well chosen gifts!

  13. Get some of those hats climbers wear when going up mountains, they'll keep your noggin warm.

  14. Do you have little boots for Billy's feet when you walk him in such cold weather?

    1. No, he's Border Collie and used to being knee deep in snow up a Welsh mountain. Very rugged, and only happy when cold.
