Yesterday was another beautiful day, so we took Billy for a pre-lunch walk down to the beach.
The old West Pier, now no more than a skeleton. An upcoming talk at our nearby church. A novelty Dustman. The Bandstand. And finally an upside-down house on the prom'.
We had a coffee at a beach Café. I asked a swimmer what the water temperature was. He said it was 11 C, and lovely; he also said the water was beautifully clear. Hmm!
Always something to photograph.
I quite like the decorated dustbin, but not the upside down house, although the colour of it is nice.
ReplyDeleteThe Dustman was very chatty. Typical 'Brighton'.
DeleteBrrr! 11 degrees?? The shock would probably kill me!
ReplyDeleteWe don't use our pool under 20C. The guy seemed OK with 11C.
DeleteI do like to see photos of other people's lives. Yours are a great variety. It looks as though the pier is no longer attached to land. Will it be reused do you think?
ReplyDeleteNo, it's finished. A great shame as both piers had their merits. It'll remain like that until it just fades away.
DeleteI like the upside down house, it woukd just be a pain to carpet.
ReplyDeleteI've just looked online to see what it is. It is simply what it says, everything inside is upside down. I think it costs £3 to visit.
DeleteI'd thought it was a Café.
Here’s another vote for the upside down house…..as Poppy said hard to carpet but think how easy it would be to paint the ceilings😊
ReplyDeleteThat must have been their main consideration when they built it. Also, it's only the ceiling that gets dusty, so no need to Hoover the carpets every week.
DeleteLove that dustcart. The upside down house is definitely quirky. It puts me in mind a little of the cube houses in Rotterdam.
ReplyDeleteThe Dustcart man was very funny and friendly. Just the type we like to see in Brighton.
DeleteEverything is so different from what I imagined what the beach would look like. Looks very interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt's a pebble beach with sand much lower down, but that never deters people. There were quite a few people sunbathing yesterday. Not us!
DeleteHave you been watching the detective series Grace? Filmed all around your area.
ReplyDeleteSome of it was filmed very close to our road. My wife saw a bit of one episode, but she'd already read all the books.
DeleteIts always fun to walk around at quiet times and investigate all the unusual corners!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your next exploration
Being a Tuesday morning, it was very quiet. I expect by the afternoon the crowds would have descended.
DeleteThe dustcart man would cheer up someone's day.
ReplyDeleteI walked around a corner and there he was. I'm amazed I haven't seen him before. His cart was covered in toys; not unlike some of the big dustbin lorries.
DeleteThe beach looks beautiful with lots of open space. Is Dustman a job or is he a bit eccentric and enjoying filling the cart with toys and making merry as he does it? Up-side-down house is unexpected and unique...a very quirky twist.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he's a council employee. It isn't a job you'd do for fun, although he seems to make the best of it.
DeleteHi Cro, I'm popping down to Brighton in a couple of weeks. I used to live there many moons ago. Can you recommend a nice spot for a drink and a bit of nosh? Anywhere on the seafront up to standard? Cheers jean
ReplyDeleteGosh, I don't know if I could recommend anywhere specific. You're spoilt for choice here, depending on what country you favour. For Italian I would suggest 'Donatello' where my oldest son goes very often. He always eats their Cozze Marinara (which is a starter), but asks for it as a main course. He would kill for it.
DeleteThanks Cro.
DeleteI don't know where my first comment disappeared to - another internet mystery. I was just saying that the street cleaner's cart would sit well in an art gallery. It could have a fancy title like "Ephemerality"... by Crozier Magnon. Ticket price 2000 guineas.
ReplyDeleteIt must be this new system, lots of people are losing their comments I believe. That cart would certainly sit well in Brighton's Art Gallery.
