A Sunday Special. The villagers sing "Myfanwy".

Taken from the film 'How Green was my Valley', the villagers sing Myfanwy; the unofficial National Anthem of Wales. To make things better, there are even a couple of glimpses of the gorgeous Maureen O'Hara.

Quite possibly filmed in Trelawnyd; where I'm sure they used John's cottage as the family's residence.

    1. Powerful stuff, and being over 50% Welsh myself, it certainly stirs the blood.

  2. When I was about ten years old, many years ago the book on which the film is based was translated into Hebrew, I read it at my parents' house even though I knew nothing about the world beyond our borders, it was of course an adult book, but I was so fascinated by it that I read it several times.

    1. The original Richard Llewellyn book was wonderful, I've still never actually seen the film.

  3. One of the best things about my ex-husband was his singing voice. Welsh, tenor, really good at harmony. His father too, we would sing in the kitchen. I do miss that.

    1. I've always sung around the house (and elsewhere). It must be the Welsh in me.

  4. Nah, the cottage is nicer than the residence of John Gray of Wales.

I read the book many years ago but I really can't remember it.

    1. John's cosy cottage is lovely, but I suspect a tad smaller than the one above.

  5. I kept thinking of all those people going into the cottage and it was like a Monty Python sketch. I am afraid it was all lost on me and rather morbid on a jolly Sunday morning. I obviously haven't got a Welsh bone in me.

    1. We needed to see the next bit, with them all crammed inside, and being offered cakes and sandwiches.

  6. That can't be John's cottage as it looks too modern and there are no dogs running around.

  7. The community among the villagers is heartwarming. They harmonize beautifully. The stone cottages with a small wall enclosing each home entry is lovely.
