Anne Murray's beautiful voice brings out the real emotion in this lovely song. Tune and lyrics by Canadian song writer Gene MacLellan.
'Spread your tiny wings and fly away'. A sad song, but strangely uplifting. I'm posting a version with the lyrics, so we can all sing along; but you might have to watch in YouTube to see all the words.
This song takes me way back. It was the favourite song of the South African friend I originally came to Greece with.
ReplyDeleteLovely
Very nostalgic. 1969 in a bottle.
DeleteI remember that! every word. I liked it a lot when it radio airplay here in Australia, my Dad liked it too.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a beautiful tune, and she has the perfect voice for it.
DeleteHer voice has a hint of Karen Carpenter about it. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt does indeed.
DeleteI've always loved that song. It take me back to carefree days.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to hear it again. I'd forgotten all about it.
DeleteAnne Murray is a fellow Nova Scotian and she lives there now. I sometimes daydream about returning myself. My favourite of her songs is "Danny's Song".
ReplyDeleteSnowbird is such a beautiful song, but I shall certainly have a listen to Danny's Song.
DeleteI didn't realize that she died...and so long ago. I remember that she had a developmentally disabled child that turned her focus from her career to caring for her child.
ReplyDeleteI think reports of her demise have been exaggerated.
DeleteOh good gravy! I mixed her up with Phoebe Snow. My apologies.
DeleteI think Anne Murray is still alive. At least that is what Google says. I loved her beautiful voice and your post had me looking up her many songs to remind myself of her great talent. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure she's still alive. I don't know where Debby got her info'.
DeleteBrings me back to my teen aged years in northern Aroostook County, Maine driving my parents' car on back roads around potato fields, getting stuck in snowbanks and drifting snow, and wondering what life would bring me.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like the perfect musical accompaniment. A mix of emotions.
DeleteThere is a similar song called Sail Away. Both lovely lyrics bringing the same sentiments.
ReplyDeleteI don't know that one... I shall make enquiries.
DeleteThat certainly takes me back to happy times.
ReplyDeleteI think the last time I heard it was over 40 years ago.
DeleteSurely there is a remastered copy. This sounds dreadful. I remember it being a melodic tune.
