Lady Magnon bought this climbing rose last Autumn. It was planted in amongst a bed of Day Lilies, and became rather swamped.
It has only recently emerged from all the foliage, and has decided to flower. It has a beautiful blood red colour, the flowers themselves are small, open, and have curled petals. It's a stunner.
Unfortunately I can't tell you its name, because we failed to keep the label; although I have a feeling it was called 'Zephyr'. I've looked on the net, but can't find it.
My photo does no justice to the actual colour.
I'm hoping it'll climb all over the front of our auvent; so far things are looking good.
As you say, a stunner.
ReplyDeleteThe photo doesn't do it justice, it really is a beauty.
DeleteIt can be a subspecies of ZĂ©phirine Drouhin but I don't really know.
ReplyDeleteI'm no good on flowers, but that sounds right.
DeleteIt's a stunner ! Well done
ReplyDeleteWell done Lady M; entirely her choice!
DeleteI only grow yellow and cream roses, your stunner has me thinking what am I missing!
ReplyDeleteI love red Roses, and would always buy them above anything else. However, Lady M did also buy a pinkish/pale cream Rose two years ago, called André LeNotre (after he who designed the gardens at Versailles), which is very beautiful, and has a wonderful scent.
DeleteGorgeous. I would love one of those for my new garden...if I ever move. I shall make a note to look out for it.
ReplyDeleteIt really looks wonderful. Here I have roses in many colors but the bloom is so short because of the hot days.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous and will look lovely climbing over your porch roof. XXXX
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. Like Yael, ours have stopped blooming. Too blooming hot
ReplyDeleteA rose climbing over your auvent sounds quite painful.

ReplyDeleteOur roses seem much more muted in colour. That’s so vibrant
ReplyDeleteEven more so than it the photo, it's very vibrant.
DeleteIt is certainly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteJust thought Cro - e mail David Austin Roses, Albrighton, Wolverhampton - they will tell you what it is called. I am sure they will have an e mail address on their web site and this is a perfect photo to send.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!! It looks lovely against the stonework.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful rose, and if it's a climber, stand aside. Off it goes.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful and robust rose. A very good buy!
ReplyDeleteI always keep the labels of anything I plant, only throwing them away when the plant dies. Your rose is beautiful and will be scrambling across your roof in two or three years time.
