Knickerbocker Glories.

Having read a recent posting of mine concerning childhood seaside holidays, Lady Magnon decided that the boys should be introduced to the pleasures of the Knickerbocker Glory.

Her version contained various fruits, ice cream, thick cream, and plum sauce (with a biscuit stuck in the top).

We'd only just returned from a restaurant, but the boys made quick work of their Glories, regardless.

The boys are now spending a few days by the sea in Béziers (where I'm sure there will be no Knickerbocker Glories).

  4. I used to yearn after knickerbocker glories when we used to visit Brighton as kids. Never allowed one. I think they actually look better than they taste.

    1. I certainly wouldn't eat one now, but I loved them as a sprog.

  6. I could just eat one of those. And in the right knickerbocker glory glasses; did they have nice long spoons too?

  7. We had one each holiday and we thought they were posh food. I can'rt remember ever eating a whole one as they were so big and my mum saying they were wasted on me. However my dad always managed to finish mine for me to my relief. I think I actually preferred a banana split.

    1. Banana splits remind me of my days with Syd Barrett, taking illegal substances and heading for a small kaff off Cambridge Circus where we would consume several.

  8. There was I, sitting out in the sun reading a book called Crowded Grave by Martin Walker and suddenly they were talking about Cro Magnon Man who followed on from the Neanderthals, well goodness me, forgive me for being dense, but I had no idea you were so old!
