Walnuts and Walnut Oil.

Regular readers of this site will be aware that I am a great advocate of walnuts and their oil.

I try to eat about 8 each day, and my morning breakfast ritual always includes a spoonful of oil.

Occasionally I do need to remind myself of why I do such things, and a quick search of the net divulged the following health benefits.

1. They reduce the risk of heart disease.
2. They reduce the risk of cancer.
3. They cut the risk of Type 2 diabetes.
4. They cut cholesterol levels.
5. They reduce the risk of breast cancer.
6. They increase sperm count/libido.
7. They are filled with antioxidants.
8. They may ward-off the onset of alzheimer's.

I have no idea if any of the above are 'guaranteed', but they sound good enough for me to continue with my daily regime.

  2. I read that somewhere as well. Pity they are so expensive, I get them as a treat. I eat other cheaper nuts as well, does that count?

  4. My parents tell me to have walnuts. Now I might start listening to them :-)

  5. I did not know about all these benefits! So, you just swallow the oil, eh? Not on a salad or anything? Hmmm. Very pretty picture, too.

    1. Just a spoonful every morning, but I do love walnut oil on new potatoes, with a sprinkling of sea salt. And on salads.

  6. They used to give me an instant mouth-ulcer when I was a kid. Not now, though.

  7. Oh heck, I haven't harvested any this year - not that many to harvest actually.
I think I have found my way back to commenting on favourite blogs - via Internet Explorer instead of Google Chrome...

    1. No; I wish we did. We could take our nuts to a press, but the nearest one is quite far away. I buy our oil from a lady who just that, on quite a big scale.

  9. Mmmmm so good -- love them, too. I've always regretted that we are not still in France when the time comes for harvesting our two glorious trees...

  10. There are several walnut trees around Le Grand-Pressigny and we usually pick a few bags of windfalls each autumn. They're so much nicer than the bitter ones we can get in the supermarket back home.

  11. I've started taking an Omega 3 suppliment for some of the same reasons. It contains fish, flax, and borage seed oil.

    1. All good stuff. I drink Walnut oil because I know where it's come from, and have a constant supply. This is a big Walnut growing area.
