Absent Blog Friends (JohnD).

Blogging allows us to encounter all sorts of people, in all sorts of places. Welsh chicken aficionados, Somerset stone cutters, Lincolnshire big-game hunters, and even Angolan restaurateurs.

As I look back at some of my old postings, I occasionally come across comments from the Australian blogger, 'JohnD'. He was a charming commentator, and always spoke good common sense. I've just this minute been reading a few.

His own blog, 'Tok Tok place', was interesting, informative, and fun. The perfect introduction to Aussie life.

So it was with huge sadness that, on December 4th 2012, I read his final posting entitled 'End of days'. He knew he was on borrowed time, and made sure that he said a proper goodbye to all his followers.

If you weren't familiar with JohnD's blog (address below), do have a look at his final post. It was an extraordinary example to all of us; especially considering the circumstances. A truly 'gentlemanly' exit.

RIP JohnD.

  1. Amazing how connected we get to each other, our blog friends, it really is another form of humanity, the good blogs anyway, that keep this world moving in the right direction. Thanks for pointing us to Johns final post.

  3. It's really sad - I was following his post. As his daughter hasn't put up a final post I was assuming that he is still "hanging in there"

  4. John eluded that one of his relatives would have written a "postscript" of sorts on that final blog which could have provided a bit of a book end to that awful final post..

    1. I quite expect she was simply too stressed. I was also just looking at your own 'obit'.

  7. Death and taxes, and I think that the taxman can still get to you after you're dead.

There is no "nice" way to go, but JohnD's seems to be one of the most rotten.

I doubt that I shall be so brave when my time comes in another eighty or ninety years.

  8. I find it very disconcerting when 'bloggers' suddenly vanish and you are left high and dry wondering what has happened to them. Are they are ill? have they died? or is it simply that they do not want to be bothered anymore.

    1. I suppose that's why I find JohnD's final posting so extraordinary. There was no question as to what happened!

  9. I have followed a blog where the author suddenly dies...the loss was great for his readers, and we didn't even 'know' him. We really do connect across the continents with this fabulous technology and get to know people through their postings. RIP John D.

  10. Although I don't post much on my own blog, I love reading about other folks. I have often wondered "what happened to so and so?"
I enjoy your blog very much, even though I may not comment on all the posts.

  11. Oh yes. I've seen this blog before. I think Carole has put all our thoughts into words. May he rest in peace

  12. So sad ... I was going to meet up with him before he took ill. He lived a couple of hours away from me. I was quite shocked as it all happened so quickly. Sue

    1. That's very sad. It would have been interesting to have had first-hand info about him. He always seemed so 'meetable'.
