This record stayed in the Top 20 in the UK for 11 weeks in 1962; it even reached No 3 in Canada.
I also see it was produced by George Martin, more often associated with producing The Beatles.
Do you remember it? I can hardly believe that we used to enjoy such things!

If Charlie Drake had a concert tour, dynamic pricing (ie robbery) would have made his ticket prices shoot up into the stratosphere. Charles Edward Springall died in 2006 at the age of 81.

I never found him funny, nor did I like this song. His passing passed me by.
I remember it well ..... I was 11.....he wasn't a favourite of mine. I was listening to the Beatles on Radio Luxembourg and Radio Caroline, at night, under the covers. Mind you, there were Freddie and the Dreamers who weren't that good along with others ! XXXX
I used to do the same, with a funny little home-made radio that came in kit form.
I remember him, but didn't realise he was so popular. Though can't say I liked him, I think he was mainly on children's TV, so for me as a teenager (also listening to Radio Luxembourg under the covers!) he was probably beneath my radar (or contempt). Unbelievable that this passed as entertainment!
He wouldn't have got very far these days; standards have improved!

A friend of mine worked on The Benny Hill Show; she used to tell me some very bizarre stories about BH himself.

I was a child and not in the UK when Charlie Drake was so popular - but have always loathed him.
Thank heavens 1960s and 1970s comedy has gone. The raicism and homophobic was epic - Benny Hill, Dick Emery, It Ain’t Half Hot Mum, On the buses - I could go on and on. Just awful stuff
I do remember it and it was very popular. This is the first photo I've ever seen of the singer and I knew nothing about him.
He was an unpleasant little man.
When we look back on those days it really does seem dreadful. I believe that CD was made to make another (less racist) version of this song; but even that would have been awful.
He was no Cary Grant. I'm still very surprised that he was so popular.
I remember it very well. His comedy shows were part of my childhood, but I never understood why this song was so popular.
