It seems to be tradition in UK these days that if you don't have a house decorated with pumpkins and webs and witches etc they leave you alone. Not much point knocking on my door...I have no sweets! Some years ago a crowd of about 6/7 teenage lads came to our door demanding trick or treat. No costumes. They had just pulled up a bush in the neighbour's garden and he came up our drive behind them at which point they decided to leave. We phoned the police and the next day one of the boys was brought to our door by his father to apologise. Sadly only one of the 6!
I will have 5 young neighborhood children come to my door for Halloween. I know the children and have a small gift bag for each child. Happy Halloween.
We used to do quite a spectacular evening for the children in France, but they've all grown up now. Here I'm not really expecting any children to knock on our door.

Optimistic Cro!
The difference between an optimist and a pessimist, is that the optimist enjoys himself whilst waiting for the inevitable! I AM that optimist!
This is a daily, optimistic, 'photos and comments' blog. I make no judgements (only occasionally), just notes. If you wish to comment in any way at all, please feel free. Everything and everyone (except the obdurate and dictatorial) is very welcome.
I was born just south of London, but for the past 50 years I've lived in S W France. I am a painter by profession, and writer by desire. Lady Magnon and I live between an ancient cottage in a tiny village in perfectly tranquil French countryside, and a bijou townhouse in Brighton UK. In France we have plenty of fruit trees, all situated amongst a view that takes the breath away, in the UK we have a handkerchief sized patio. We also have a Border Collie called Billy. I try to treat our planet with respect, and encourage others to do likewise (without preaching).
Contentment is a glass of red, a plate of charcuterie, and a slice of good country bread. Perfect!
Happy Halloween 🎃 to those that celebrate it. Here it's just 'pinch and a punch for the end of the month'
ReplyDeleteWe don't celebrate it. Not interested.
DeleteA happy day to you as well.
ReplyDeleteWe went to a delicious and boozy dinner party last night. Our celebrations will end there!
DeleteBlessed Samhain, Cro. Tonight we honour our ancestors.
ReplyDeleteI may raise a glass to mine, but no more.
DeleteWe have locked the door, switched off the lights and shall sit very quietly....
ReplyDeleteThat's the spirit. We shall do the same!

Sadly some take it as an excuse to behave as badly as they wish. They hope their disguises will make them unrecognisable, and therefore uncatchable.
DeleteFor 1907 that is amazing footage. So many simple tricks.
ReplyDeleteIt's good fun. The acting seems so bizarre and dated. Things have certainly changed.
DeleteIf they did every frame, that is over 25,000 images to add color to.

DeleteThat was really good, funny too, thanks.
ReplyDeleteA very strange bit of early film.
