The downstairs of our old Séchoir (tobacco drying shed) is one big open space; I designed it to make the most of its size.
The Kitchen has a large wood-burning cooker, a large range-style gas/electric cooker, plenty of cupboard space, two big fridge/freezers, and a big pantry (out of sight). It's a pleasant place to work.
The Sitting room corner has a wonderfully comfortable L-shaped white leather sofa, a HUGE TV set, and a small wood-burning stove. The yellow square thing by the stove is a game of Snakes-n-Ladders that I made for Boo Boo.
The Dining area and Staircase are just standard. The door at the back goes through to a Bathroom and the Pantry.
The wonderful Italian wood burning cooker, and the moveable island (a table on which I put wheels).
And lastly, another view of the stairs.
From having been a 'project', it's now become a comfortable home. It's still evolving, and no doubt will go through many more changes; especially upstairs where the main Bathroom, and another Bedroom are still under construction. It will eventually have four Bedrooms, and two Bathrooms.
It's a very pleasant house, it's just a pity that its owners are now living in a big modern Miami penthouse; so it remains empty. C'est la vie!
p.s. Just in case you missed seeing the interior of the barn before I started the work... here it is below.
A lovely place. Sounds and looks like you're missing them quite a lot.
ReplyDeleteWe are, but they have itchy feet and love to travel.
DeleteA lot of love went into that designing. I can see that from where I sit.
ReplyDeleteIt was a matter of distributing a Kitchen, dining area, and sitting area into a large open space. There are probably things I would do slightly differently, but overall it's very comfortable. I'm no architect.
DeleteWhat a wonderful place to live.
ReplyDeleteIt is very nice. It has a friendly atmosphere.
DeleteLooks very spacious and comfortable. I like the way you've done the stairs.
ReplyDeleteThe stairs 'evolved'; this was stage 3, and I hope that's it.
DeleteQuite a project and it appears to be a successful one.
ReplyDeleteI would say 95% successful. There are still a few things to do.
DeleteAll looks so attractive Cro.
ReplyDeleteThey've certainly improved upon our original interior décor. Most of their furniture came from Oz.
DeleteWhen can I move in?
ReplyDeleteIt's empty at the moment... when can you come?
DeleteI shall get Jeeves to prepare the helicopter. We'll be there after lunch.
DeleteIt looks gorgeous .... I could live very comfortably there 😂 !!!! XXXX
ReplyDeleteIt is very nice, and any day our carpenter will come to replace all the exterior wooden cladding. He was supposed to have started last year.
DeleteYou have every right to feel proud of yourself for creating this living space though I remain a little confused about the barn's ownership and where it is in relation to your house.
ReplyDeleteIt now belongs to my youngest son, who travels rather a lot; he also has homes in Oz and Thailand, and is presently living in Miami. It is positioned about 100 yards behind our house
DeleteLooks lovely Cro, shame it's going to waste. Hope it's all going to be safe, along with your own house whilst you're out of the country later.
ReplyDeleteWe have plenty of security systems, but I expect my son will be back anyway.
DeleteI'd like to volunteer myself and The Dog as house sitters. Fully vaccinated - both of us, and raring to go!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to offer it to you, but it's not really mine to offer!!
DeleteIn these times when one’s job often does not tie you down to one area and can be done remotely, your son and his family are able to live a very interesting and adventurous life. In the end though, we all want to go home - and what a lovely home he has to return! Well done, Cro.
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly very nice here, but I'm not sure if he thinks of it as 'home'.
DeletePerhaps, years from now, Boo Boo, who had spent his youth traveling far and wide, may want a life that he remembers with his grandparents and a dog named Billie. He could be the one to return to the family home in the south of France where precious memories were made and a home waits for him. Wouldn't that be nice!
DeleteThat's a lovely thought. I can think of nothing nicer.
DeleteThat is beautiful..a work of art in architecture
ReplyDeleteAs produced by an amateur!!
DeleteA perfect illustration of the maxim: if you want a good job doing, do it yourself.
ReplyDeleteWe did have some help with the plumbing and electricity.
DeleteSuch craftsmanship Cro. Your artistic talent is evident in all that you do.
ReplyDeleteThou doth flatter so. I think I did a reasonably good job; but I would say that, wouldn't I.
DeleteAn excelent reconstruction and in France too. Can't understand how they don't live there permanently.
ReplyDeleteWe can't understand either. It probably won't be long before he buys somewhere on a tiny Greek island..... Beware!
DeleteWhat a lovely place. Modern and cosy.
ReplyDeleteHe can easily rent it out as a holiday home.
Our daughter has lived in the USA on the east and west coast for 15 years. With intervals in the UK as well. She is in Cancun at the moment.
Quite difficult to obtain a green card for the USA.
My son was in Cancun for a couple of months before moving to Miami, it looks beautiful.
DeleteWhat a marvellous transformation! How nice to have had the opportunity to build something yourself.
ReplyDeleteIt was a lot of fun. I took my time; there was no rush. I also had a few good helpers from time to time.
DeleteI'll move in , just send the address!
ReplyDeleteWith the current state of affairs, I suspect that France is filled with empty houses.
DeleteSo , just come on over and move in to any of them? ;)
DeleteIt is very nice and looks ready for someone!
Deleteit is beautiful. Thank you for showing us. I am very impressed with your talents.
