I'm very pleased to say that not only did Lady Magnon remember my recent birthday, but she also managed to find the present that she'd so carefully hidden away.
The present, which I'd bought for myself several months ago (and she'd bought back from me), came wrapped in old Christmas paper, and is a rather dapper Mushrooming Knife made by Leopard.
It's a very practical piece of kit. Its brass inlay on the handle is extremely beautiful, and it's a very pleasant object to hold in one's hand. Thank you m'dear!
I expect it'll be quite a while yet, but I can hardly wait for our Cepe season to start.
May you find many mushrooms. I remembered your birthday yesterday, as my comment was meant to indicate.
ReplyDeleteI did realise that, but only hinted. I didn't want to start an avalanche.
DeleteYes, I assumed that.
DeleteI spoke to my son yesterday as he was walking around Norwich. He was looking for a good sandwich place before heading back to London.
DeleteYou told him about my Subway in the station of course!
DeleteI told him to find a Tesco (other supermarkets are available) and buy a good quality Pork Pie. I later spoke to him on the train, but forgot to ask what he'd found!
DeleteWonderful gift and I hope you will fins so many mushrooms with Billy.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday !
parsnip
He's already been out with me in late Spring when we had a crop of 'Girolles'; he even found some himself.
DeleteWhat a gud dug he is !
DeleteI shall attempt to train him to find Cepes.
DeleteThat looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIt's a really nice knife; much better than my Opinel mushrooming knife.
DeleteHappy Belated Birthday Cro. I love the knife.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer. Keep cool!
DeleteBeautiful workmanship. I can see it will be a pleasure to use. Happy hunting and happy birthday
ReplyDeleteThanks. It has a very pleasant weight, and feels good in my hand.
DeleteNice knife. Many happy mushrooms x
ReplyDeleteIt's so dry here at the moment that one could hardly imagine a mushroom growing ever again.
DeleteA machirologist in our midst?
ReplyDeleteThe best of both worlds; machirologist and mycologist, in one!
DeleteHappy, happy birthday Cro and many happy returns. The knife is the perfect Cro present and I love the birthday card. Have a great day. XXXX
ReplyDeleteThank you Jacqueline. You're right, it was the perfect present. Lovely meal last night, and again tonight, then a local speciality restaurant tomorrow night. It's a hard life.
DeleteHappy belated birthday Cro.
ReplyDeleteThank you Yael. Too hot here; I'm slowly melting.
DeleteA beautiful piece of work...lucky you! and belated greetings
ReplyDeleteThank you. I've been playing with it all morning.
DeleteA splendid addition to the Cro armoury. Looks like we'll have the best blackberries for many years. They are truly flourishing.
ReplyDeleteI went scrumping this morning to an ex-veg garden where a few plants were left behind. Amongst the best are some thornless Blackberries that are ripe NOW. They were delicious; tomorrow I might even take a small bag!
DeleteBelated birthday wishes. Have fun with the fungi.
ReplyDeleteThanks JC. I certainly will have fun; mushrooming is one of my favourite pastimes.
DeleteHappy Birthday Cro! Between you, you've put together a handsome present - I like both the fetching inlay and the Xmas wrapping! Hope you had a fun day.
ReplyDeleteWe did indeed. Maybe a bit too hot, but otherwise a good day.
DeleteI love the way that Lady M found the perfect gift for you. Happy Birthday, Cro, and I wish you many happy mushroom hunting days ahead.
ReplyDeleteThank you; she knows me well!
DeletePrufrock measured out his life in coffee spoons - you seem to measure out yours in various eatable seasons.
ReplyDeleteI suppose I do. It probably comes from living where I do; the seasons here are very specific.
