The greatest show on earth! Glad the bulls co-operated and all ran the right way...thanks to all those arm movements. Reminds of the bull jumpers of Knossos in Crete. There are wall paintings of them doing just this.
ReplyDeleteGreat sport unless the Bull decides otherwise. Every time I now meet a Bull, my two hands will immediately imitate those guys.
DeleteLike local alien says, it is a direct copy of the Minoan games. I don't know why the Spanish have to torment the bulls with darts before killing them in the ring. Something to do with masculinity I suppose.
ReplyDeleteThe Courses Landaise don't hurt the Bulls, and they live to entertain another day; hopefully catching some annoying bastard by the pants.
DeleteI've only once been to a proper Bullfight, and I didn't much care for it (we saw one of the bullfighters killed). The thing I most remember about it was that the tickets were sold as Sun, Sun and Shade, and Shade. I think we stupidly plumped for Sun and Shade.
I like this! A bit like the gymnastics at the Olympics, with adding a Degree of Difficulty to get extra points. It's also fun to see people doing such callisthenics without needing to resort to lycra active wear, although the Minoans did appear to don early Speedos - but probably just to show off the bod, haha.
ReplyDeleteThe red and white is very Basque. If Adidas had been allowed anywhere near their outfits, there would have been well warranted RIOTS.
DeleteWhy?
ReplyDeleteBecause they can!
DeleteObviously it has come down the ages - just young men showing off really i suppose.
ReplyDeleteMacho macho macho. A man can only call himself a MAN, if he jumps over Bulls!
DeleteWell I never. You learn something every day. I always thought the DAX was the German FTSE.
ReplyDeleteThey stole the name!
