My late father was born on this day in 1905.
I keep his picture on my wall to remind myself of what a generous man he was; I try to follow his example, not always successfully..
A diverse offering twixt the interesting, the unusual, and the amusing.
Our parents will always be with us in both our hearts and our memories. They area part of us, or should I say, we are a part of them. My dad's dimples have been passed down to one of my daughter's and to a granddaughter. I can look at them and feel comfort and pride.
ReplyDeleteLady Magnon continues to use expressions that my father used, and finds them very amusing.
DeleteHow distinguished he looked! That's a great photo. He would be proud of you!
ReplyDeleteVery typical of his era. Straight-laced and caring.
DeleteI wished him a happy 112th birthday first thing this morning.
ReplyDeleteMe too, at 4.30 am (I couldn't sleep).
DeleteI love using my parents expressions! Quaint. My older brother is gathering them all together. He used to sing little ditties as well and we have those on tape.
ReplyDeleteAs you say a generation straight-laced and caring
Just looked at the photo again. And that stance. We have a similar photo, hands in pockets, the same dress
DeleteThe photo was taken by his girlfriend at the time (or ex-girlfriend) the artist Elizabeth Crowe. I imagine the pose was a classic of its time.
DeleteWhat a beautiful photo.
ReplyDeleteYes, I like it very much. I imagine he was quite 'dashing' at the time.
DeleteIt is strange how much more significant our parents' birthdays become when they are no longer there. I always do something special usually involving strawberries and roses on my mother's (26 June) and my father's (5 December) always signifies Advent and waiting and preparing for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI always think of my father on his birthday; he was a real gentleman.
DeleteA lovely reminder of your Dad to have on the wall .... he sounded a really nice man. Our Dad would have been 100 last month ..... we went out for lunch and toasted him .... he loved a glass of red !!!
ReplyDeleteWas your dad an artist too Cro ? XXXX
No, not at all; but he seems to have enjoyed the company of actresses and painters.
DeleteMy mother's birthday was yesterday. It is the only one I remember, or rather it is the only one I could not forget.
ReplyDeleteSame birthday as The Queen Mum.
DeleteLovely photograph Cro - he is looking directly at you.
ReplyDeleteMaking sure I don't get up to any mischief.
DeleteMen looked smart in those days.
ReplyDeleteI can't picture him with torn jeans and his hat on backwards.
DeleteWhat หีฟิตa beautiful photo.
