Still learning.

My friend Philippe was telling me all about Iguanas.

Apparently they begin life as carnivores, then almost at once turn veggie. They need that extra initial protein just to get them going.

It seems to me that humans (and most other animals) really should be the same; high protein food is essential at birth (mother's milk), but this soon becomes unnecessary and a plant based diet should take over.

I'm not an advocate for a meatless diet, but we do eat veggie several times each week.  I like to classify myself as a part-time veggie. Is that allowed?

N.B. My mate Philippe runs a gardening business; he is also a very good sculptor. He's in the middle of 'single-handedly' building himself an impressively grand house, his stone wall building work is staggeringly beautiful. A real craftsman.

  1. That's a nice spontaneous picture of you. I like the surrounding. Are you outside a quaint little French bar? I do not drink milk, I eat meat twice weekly. I should eat more fish but not eating much of anything, not even veggies, lately. I love bananas.
    Greetings Maria x

    1. It was at a friend's house on Tuesday evening. I would love to eat more fish, but find myself always buying Salmon rather than being more adventurous. I do also love Whelks, but they're not really 'fish'.

  2. Can you send Philippe over here? I need a wall rebuilt and he will probably be handy at putting that shed up as well! x

    1. He's one of the busiest people I know... otherwise I would certainly have told him about you.

  3. Like a lot of things I don't think we should be made to feel bad about eating meat or good about being a veggie - part time or otherwise.
Red wine good, overpriced red wine bad.

  6. We eat a lot of veggies, most time drowning any meat we have on the plate, and if we did not have our own supply of meat then I would definitely go vegetarian.
Nice photo. You look very artistic and wise.

  8. Philippe sounds like a good friend to have, especially if you need to borrow a tool or some tips on gardening problems.

  9. I'd not known about iguanas' changing their diet and agree that it gives something to think about.
That's a grand photo that clearly indicates friendship and France.

    Best wishes.

  11. Little Stalky has gone vegan since moving to Oz. (https://theveganlife.com.au/)
We are experimenting with some vegan recipes so that we can cook for her when we visit later this year but it is hard to give up a lifetime of eating meat/fish. Sarah seems to have adopted the vegan lifestyle religiously and has become quite the activist. I like the photo of you with the requisite glass of wine in hand!

    1. I find myself very drawn to Indian veggie food. We're having a veggie curry tonight, and probably a different one tomorrow evening too. Wills, and Kellogg, are Vegans... I don't think I could go that far.

  13. Wonderful photograph, and nothing like a chat with a good friend.

I was 'semi-vegetarian' as I called myself, eating chicken or fish maybe once a fortnight or so. My blood work showed that I needed more meat protein and animal fat, which was hard for me because I had lost my taste for meat. Within 3 months, my bloodwork showed amazing improvement. So, I'm back to eating meat or fish every day.

A hockey teammate of mine had a similar change-in-diet experience, although in her case, she felt very much better when she became vegetarian and stopped eating meat.

I do like a good curry, either veggie style or with meat. I'll have to put that on my menu soon.

    1. Our last night's curry was very good. It was basically onion, tomato, mushroom, and chick peas, with garam masala, etc, etc. Very earthy and delicious.
