Alfred.

I can't count the amount of times that we've recently said to each other "That bloke looks just like Alfred E Neuman" (it happened again last night).

Lookalikes turn up reading the news on TV, at the supermarket checkout, serving in restaurants, and elsewhere.

Could there be a new international breed of human, cloned from the great man himself?

I think we should be told.

  1. That's my brother I'll have you know!!
Such a close resemblance that he uses the same picture on Facepaperback...but he's replaced the missing tooth using Photoshop.

  2. I don't know who this man is that you are talking about, but I often think I see someone who I know but do not because they are not the person I thought I knew. Hope you followed that. Am still foggy headed with night time sleep.

    1. I am shocked to hear that you don't know Alfred E Neuman.

A while back I said good morning (and kissed) a woman in the charcuterie queue at Leclerc thinking it was my neighbour..... It wasn't.

  3. I didn't know who he was either, but I do now! Wiki P is a place I visit often!

    1. What were you doing when you were supposed to be mis-spending your youth? Alfred E Neuman was an icon!

  4. I didn't know either. I'm not sure I'm much wiser now!

  5. Ah, Alfred E Neuman! I was hooked on Mad magazine for many years as a kid, I adored its total irreverence. It probably explains the quite unsuitable irreverence I still display on what are supposed to be serious and solemn occasions. What, me worry?

    1. Those who were brought up with AEN could never forget him. Those who were not have my sympathy.

  7. I read Jackie and my brothers had The Eagle and The Beano. I never saw anyone called Alfred only Dan Dare and Roger the Dodger.

    1. I used to read The Eagle too, but Alfred will always be No 1.

    3. School Friend was around in my girly day.
My husband's son 'reminded me ' of AEN. Of course, I am not able to say - he looked like him , even if he did. Now in his fifties he looks normal!

    4. Maybe certain boys go through an AEN stage. Good to hear they grow out of it!

    5. I've heard of AEN, but never read Mad magazine, so know nothing about him. I would assume he was some sort of holy (American) terror?
School Friend and Girl magazines in my youth too.

  8. Mad definitely was a feature of my youth. It is surprising to see from the prior comments that some folks had not met up with AEN.

I recently had to explain to a 19 year old friend who Yoko Ono is. Of course, I am sure that I am currently unaware of some other icons who are gathering their followers.

    Best wishes.

    1. I'm rather surprised too Frances; I thought everyone knew of him! I was married just after John and Yoko (in Gibraltar), so I do know her.

  9. Alfred was always a bit of a hero of mine, though I've never met his like in person.

    1. Well, his doppelgängers seem to be all over the place.

  10. Unfortunately, if we look closely, we will find a little bit of Alfred in all politicians.
