That's my brother I'll have you know!! Such a close resemblance that he uses the same picture on Facepaperback...but he's replaced the missing tooth using Photoshop.
I don't know who this man is that you are talking about, but I often think I see someone who I know but do not because they are not the person I thought I knew. Hope you followed that. Am still foggy headed with night time sleep.
Ah, Alfred E Neuman! I was hooked on Mad magazine for many years as a kid, I adored its total irreverence. It probably explains the quite unsuitable irreverence I still display on what are supposed to be serious and solemn occasions. What, me worry?
School Friend was around in my girly day. My husband's son 'reminded me ' of AEN. Of course, I am not able to say - he looked like him , even if he did. Now in his fifties he looks normal!
I've heard of AEN, but never read Mad magazine, so know nothing about him. I would assume he was some sort of holy (American) terror? School Friend and Girl magazines in my youth too.
Mad definitely was a feature of my youth. It is surprising to see from the prior comments that some folks had not met up with AEN.
I recently had to explain to a 19 year old friend who Yoko Ono is. Of course, I am sure that I am currently unaware of some other icons who are gathering their followers.

Optimistic Cro!
The difference between an optimist and a pessimist, is that the optimist enjoys himself whilst waiting for the inevitable! I AM that optimist!
This is a daily, optimistic, 'photos and comments' blog. I make no judgements (only occasionally), just notes. If you wish to comment in any way at all, please feel free. Everything and everyone (except the obdurate and dictatorial) is very welcome.
I was born just south of London, but for the past 50 years I've lived in S W France. I am a painter by profession, and writer by desire. Lady Magnon and I live between an ancient cottage in a tiny village in perfectly tranquil French countryside, and a bijou townhouse in Brighton UK. In France we have plenty of fruit trees, all situated amongst a view that takes the breath away, in the UK we have a handkerchief sized patio. We also have a Border Collie called Billy. I try to treat our planet with respect, and encourage others to do likewise (without preaching).
Contentment is a glass of red, a plate of charcuterie, and a slice of good country bread. Perfect!
That's my brother I'll have you know!!

Please forward our kindest regards (and sympathy).
DeleteI know a few Alfreds myself.
ReplyDeleteI think we all do!

ReplyDeleteI am shocked to hear that you don't know Alfred E Neuman.
DeleteA while back I said good morning (and kissed) a woman in the charcuterie queue at Leclerc thinking it was my neighbour..... It wasn't.
I didn't know who he was either, but I do now! Wiki P is a place I visit often!
ReplyDeleteWhat were you doing when you were supposed to be mis-spending your youth? Alfred E Neuman was an icon!
DeleteI didn't know either. I'm not sure I'm much wiser now!

See above, Aril.

ReplyDeleteNeumanites rule!
DeleteWell at least I now know who Alfred E Neuman is.
ReplyDeleteThose who were brought up with AEN could never forget him. Those who were not have my sympathy.
DeleteI read Jackie and my brothers had The Eagle and The Beano. I never saw anyone called Alfred only Dan Dare and Roger the Dodger.
ReplyDeleteI used to read The Eagle too, but Alfred will always be No 1.
DeleteMy favourite was always Desperate Dan.

Maybe certain boys go through an AEN stage. Good to hear they grow out of it!

Best wishes.
I'm rather surprised too Frances; I thought everyone knew of him! I was married just after John and Yoko (in Gibraltar), so I do know her.
DeleteAlfred was always a bit of a hero of mine, though I've never met his like in person.
ReplyDeleteWell, his doppelgängers seem to be all over the place.
DeleteUnfortunately, if we look closely, we will find a little bit of Alfred in all politicians.
