More boot-sale stuff.

Don't ask me why, but I've always wanted one of these gigot holding devices (with the bone handle), it always seems a very sophisticated accessory for a roasted leg of Lamb. I shall buy a gigot, specially, when I next go to my butcher.

Otherwise, I bought a heavy silver plated soup ladle, and a nice big preserving pan for sterilising my jars of vegs and paté.

Not a bad morning's work.

p.s. I negotiated a price of €8 for the big preserving pan. I gave the lady a €20 note and she gave me €14 change..... I walked away as quickly as was decent. Naughty Cro.

  2. I can't see how the gigot holding thing works.

    1. You insert the gigot bone into the thing, tighten the screw, then carve whilst holding the handle. It just makes things easier.

    2. Ah yes, I see it more now. I would like one too.

    1. I'm just back from shopping, and noticed that the exact same preserving pot costs €32. So now I'm wondering if I shouldn't have returned her extra €2. Not sure.

    1. It's particularly nice, but with a slightly smaller bowl than I would have liked. Picky, aren't I.

  5. That lady will get her revenge when you develop Altzheimers from cooking acidic jam in an aluminium pot...

    1. Don't fret so.... it's only for sterilising jars of vegs and paté. Jam is made in copper.

    2. Copper? Seriously? I hope it's tinned on the inside!

    4. All jam making pans are made of copper, they are better heat diffusers, and therefore the jam cooks quicker.

    1. I'd thought that confessing my sin here would be enough.

  7. Don't fret over the money. I use a large enameled pan for jam and jelly. They are really pretty inexpensive.

  8. Not a bad haul, indeed. I particularly like the ladle.

  9. I must confess that I exaggerated the story of my preserving pan purchase. In fact it was only a bit later that I realised that the two coins were €2 and not €1 pieces that she'd given me as change. It is for this reason that I've now deleted the two well known insult-trolls who left comments above. It's amazing how these people come out from their cess pits, lest they miss an opportunity for a good insult.
