Modern duels.

No, this didn't take place in the sugar cane plantations of the USA's deep South, but in the UK's county of Essex.

I won't say what 'cultural group' these people come from, but I will warn you to be very careful when encountering young men wearing either black or pale grey track suits, masks, and hoodies. And to keep away from most UK inner cities.

It has now become VERY common for such folk to carry Machetes hidden down their trousers. They not only attack 'their own', but will randomly attack 'locals' too.

I was reading in The Guardian about a 'Machete Duel' in Battersea, between a couple of these lads, and decided to look on YouTube for a video. I was amazed to discover that there were loads on offer. It seems that certain young men often fight these duels; no doubt over their drug businesses.

Fights take place in daylight, in open ground, at popular meeting places (such as Southend above). Onlookers are terrified, but can do nothing. It's not unlike 'Pistols at Dawn' from earlier times.

It seems that such behaviour has now become part of everyday UK life. It's not surprising that native Londoners are leaving their city for good! Who could blame them!

I was recently listening to David Lammy our 'Justice Minister' (on the radio). He was describing all the current problems these people are causing. Drugs, phone thefts, smash-n-grabs, people smuggling, antisemitism attacks, and general crimes and misbehaviour; his answer was the standard 'We need more Bobbies on the beat'.

Well, with far too few policemen in the UK, I think we'll have to call in The Army to help-out.

Everything's getting out of hand.

You say that these duelling, knife-wielding morons are common on the streets of British cities but I must say that I have never seen any of these bad guys so they can't be that common. The vast majority of British people remain honest, hard-working and kind and I have seen many thousands of them.

The great majority of people never witness these attacks, but I can assure you that they are happening all the time. They are now almost as common as shoplifting. The problem is drug dealing turf. The gangs fight over territory, and think only of themselves and money. This is not something to be complacent about, it is very serious.

I am not being complacent. In those rare neighbourhoods where these bad things happen from time to time - it is of course a serious matter. However, let's keep things in proportion please.

YP, dare I say it, but this is just part of a much wider problem. One section of society is behaving differently to the rest of us. From grooming gangs, to E-bike phone thefts, and general lawlessness, a huge section of the UK's population are running amok. Whilst you and I live our law-abiding lives, others are brought-up to think of crime as their livelihood.

More police???
No, get the existing police out from their cushy desks hunting for "wrong-speak" and out onto the streets to actually enforce existing public order standards, and definitely NOT in the current two tier manners.

To be expected, Cro. Whenever you bring something unsavoury up in conversations, you can guarantee that there will always be those who reply, 'well I haven't seen that'. Just because it hasn't yet happened on their own doorstep they deny any existence of it. I will heed your warning. My world is shrinking because I do not wish to put myself at risk by entering a hostile environment. I will stay out of their world, if they stay out of mine.

Police are rather like nurses, they have countless forms to fill-in before and after even the slightest incident. They are glued to their computers. How often do we see Bobbies on the Beat? Hardly ever.

Of course these incidents don't happen in every little village or town, but they certainly happen frequently in many inner cities. Only major incidents are widely reported, but the problem is real. It is getting worse and worse by the day.
