Padron


I had been looking for some small green peppers to fry for lunch, and by chance I found the exact one's I was after. Padron Peppers from Spain, as served in Tapas bars everywhere. I was very surprised to find them in my usual supermarket; neatly wrapped in cellophane. I had never seen them on sale previously.


These lovely little green peppers are gently fried and tossed in olive oil until they 'blister' all over, then they are left to cool, and are sprinkled with Sea Salt. About 5 mins work.

And here they are (below) as part of a simple Summer salad. They are delicious, and will be on my shopping list for the rest of the Summer.

If you've never tasted them, I recommend that you do. They aren't hot, they are soft sweet and delicious, with a slightly grassy flavour, and always leave you wanting more.

    1. I used to grow something similar, but they were much longer. They tasted almost the same. They were what I was expecting to buy at the supermarket.

  4. I've just gathered a bowl full of those peppers from the garden. Not quite the same. Ours are a lighter green. I never know what to do with them. Well today I shall simply fry some and some I will stuff with feta and fry.

    1. I've just this minute been frying the remaining half of the pack. Yours sound like the ones I used to grow, they were longer and lighter, and very prolific. Quite similar in taste, but the Padrons are the best.

  6. Not familiar with those peppers, but just roasted some red bell peppers last night with a little olive oil and garlic... to add to our Italian chicken and baked potato (first decent food since Covid hit out house last week). We've been living on chicken soup for a while...

    1. Susan, I don't know if you have a veg' garden, but if you could find the seeds, they grow like crazy. Look for Padron Peppers.

  8. Looks terrific. I 'll be by one day this week to enjoy them as well. I am not for hot either, but love ones that have a little spice to them.

    1. These are not spicy at all, but have a lovely flavour. They are also so easy to prepare. I shall buy more tomorrow.
