Bad Back Breakfast.

It was a really foul morning last Friday. Gales, blizzards, rain, tornadoes, sleet, snow, icebergs, and very cold. Not a day to be wandering around Brighton at 7am in the morning.

However, Kimbo is a stalwart climber of snowy peaks (above), and he braved the elements to join me for our usual Friday early-morning breakfast together.

I was suffering with my bad back, so I swapped the Full English, in favour of something easier and quicker to prepare!

I had plenty of Eggs in the Fridge, as well as a bag of ready grated Mature Cheddar Cheese. So, there was no question; it would have to be a Cheese Omelet (Omelette).

Knowing Kimbo's (and my) appetite, I also toasted a few slices of bread, and offered two types of Marmalade; Lady M's (in the Le Parfait jar) and a brand new jar of 'Duerr's' (as good as Cooper's). The jar of Duerr's remained unopened, whilst Lady M's was emptied. That says a lot!

The rain continued, and the wind lashed, but we were well-fed and happy.

That Omelet (Omelette) was delicious. (the little blob above it in the photo was some escaped cheese; in case you were wondering!)

N.B. 'Uncle Andy' Burnham (our new PM) has advised us to all stock-up on tinned food, bottled water, cash, candles, red wine, and a wind-up radio. If indeed his predictions of 'Doomsday' are correct, may I suggest that you also stock-up on Eggs. A couple of dozen should be enough; they remain fresh for at least two weeks, if not a lot more. Those vital two weeks should be enough for you to escape to some deserted Scottish Island, where you could live off Shellfish and Seaweed, until St Peter finally demands your, and Uncle Andy's, presence.

Life under Andy's tenure is certainly interesting; he keeps our larders well stocked.

J'aime aussi les omelettes au fromage, de préfèrence avec du Comté ou du Roquefort, mais je les mange à midi ou le soir. Votre petit déjeuner est toujours bien copieux, donc pas besoin d'un petit snack avant le repas de midi.

Snowy peaks in Brighton? I thought they were only on your meringue pavlova bases.

We buy our eggs in 'bulk', a tray of 30. I eat a lot of them. Devilled eggs today. A cheese omelette, or omelet ,is simple and tasty. Haven't had one in ages .
We have a supply of dry goods, rice and macaroni, 6 packs of water. A battery radio, a small gas stove outside. Living out of town we need a little extra of everything. It'll keep us going for a few weeks at least

My absolute favourite French Blue Cheese is St Agur, which is probably made in some HUGE FACTORY somewhere, but it is always delicious. I wonder if it would make a good omelet? I must try it one day.

On Friday morning we needed crampons, snow ploughs, and ice picks. Regardless, Kimbo struggled to get here!

I did actually consider buying a single ring Gas Stove yesterday, but then thought it was a waste of money. I have a BBQ and some charcoal in the garage, so in case of emergencies we'll use that. I might still buy the Gas Stove.

Just a cheese omelette? Definitely not second best!

I don't know why they're advising us to stock up on bottled water when we can just fill containers from our taps....I agree, the eggs keep for ages, I'd say a month at least especially if they're in the fridge.

No, it was delicious. We had another for lunch yesterday.

Someone could make a lot of money selling large empty water containers. I'd buy a few!

I'm certain when you opened the door and saw the friendly and handsome face of your son, all your icebergs melted.

I thought of you last night when I made scrambled eggs for our supper, because I know you dislike them scrambled. I thought about making omelets but soft scrambled works better while Gregg still recovers from dental surgery. I added sharp cheddar cheese and parmesan to the eggs as they finished cooking (with the heat off) and gently mixed it in...so delicious! We ate them with soft buttered yeast rolls.

I wish you could try MY scrambled eggs. I'd be interested to see if I could convert you. They're really good if I do say so myself!

I just had to share this with you hoping it would encourage you regarding your beloved France. Some are not keeping silent.

Cro, we love omelettes too... although I still can't see the difference between scrambled eggs and an omelette. And as for 'stocking up', I've heard the same around here. Has the world gone crazy? It's all a bit scary...

It says the video isn't available any more. But I can imagine.

To me there is a world of difference between scrambled and omelet. It's all to do with texture; not taste.

Cro Magnon said...

Of course. I love our breakfasts together. He's with us at the moment drinking Champagne!!!

My other pet hate is Bread and Butter Pudding. It contains everything I like, but when combined I can't even look at it.

And I was just telling Gregg how you hate bread and butter pudding because we were watching Bake Off and they were making it. Wow, I really know all about your dietary preferences! Lol

Cro Magnon said...

I think they're the only two things I don't like. Otherwise I'm a glutton!

OMG, I love bread and butter pudding... as well as bread pudding - although they are a little different. Really like it when it's combined with fresh peaches and whiskey sauce!

It was Madame Le Pen. Very angry with Macron not even being in the country. Articulate woman. I can still access it here in the US. You're probably getting censored?

Have you tried Sainsbury's Brioche Bread & Butter Pudding?
Like you, always I loathed B&B pudding but find the above quite delicious.

Looks very tasty. We have a power outage yesterday for six hours and t’internet was out for 18 hours.

We have three 25 litre containers that are filled with water and are relatively well stocked with food. Don’t have the battery powered radio though.

Sorry about the back - does a hot water bottle help?

People are advised to stock up on bottled water because not everyone is wise enough to make sure the containers are clean and bacteria grows quickly. Filling up the bathtub used to be a solution but now there are fewer homes with actual tubs.

When building a water supply you need to ensure you factor in your pets and any other animals needs.

Don't buy the little bottles, 5 litre jugs or larger are the way to go.

Due to freezing temperatures and broken water mains as a result we usually have about 100 litres in the basement.

Thank you Kathe for that link. Great speech by Marine Le Pen. She is the one to sort out the mob culture in France.

It is available. Try again. Marine is on fire.

I haven't tried a hot water bottle, I'm relying on pills for the moment. I think it's calming a bit now. It was awful for a few days.
