Peaches are much like Tomatoes; their true flavour is only revealed when they are home grown, outdoors, in sunshine.
Like all impatient gourmets, we bought a few 'supermarket' Peaches and Nectarines this year, simply because they looked so inviting, but they were either far too hard, or totally lacking in flavour. Somehow we knew they would be, but we bought them anyway.
Boo Boo's very own Peach tree started the year covered in flowers, then looked promising with masses of tiny fruit. What happened after that I'm not sure. The baby Peaches fell off one by one, and we have ended-up with no more than a dozen edible fruits.
Even so, they are delicious. Smaller this year than usual (no doubt due to drought and heat), but with a magnificent flavour.
Elsewhere our Greengages are just beginning to ripen, and all other Plums will soon follow on. All is OK in the orchard, but my Jonagold apple has lost a big branch; too much weight!.

They have a really intense flavour. Why can't commercial growers produce the same?
Too few unfortunately. We do have other Peach trees, but they ripen much later.
I can just smell those peaches! Only apples and plums here.
Some have been attacked by Ants, but most are OK. They really are delicious this year.

In our case they are grown about 50 Kms away.... no excuse!
They look beautiful, but sadly fresh peaches give me tum ache! ....as do other " stone fruits".
I remember loving peaches when I was young but now they are always hard and such a disappointment I don't buy them. As gz says above, they are picked early for transportation reasons, but they never seem to ripen properly when they arrive. They may look nice but it ends there.
The shop-bought (usually Spanish) little 'doughnut' peaches are really excellent.
A freshly plucked peach is a beautiful thing ..... so delicious. I am regularly disappointed with peaches, nectarines and strawberries. Raspberries are usually good I buy the flat, doughnut peaches that Ton mentioned. They are delicious. XXXX
How lovely to be able to pick your own peaches I get mine at Farmer’s Markets but I am not so sure that the farmer grew them.
How very annoying. You'll just have to believe me, they were delicious.
So different to growing one's own. I press them gently for several days before picking, so that they are perfect.
We have them in the shops at the moment. I usually find that they have big stones, and not enough flesh!

I think we've been lucky this year. There is a tree nearby where I usually 'scrump' a few Peaches every year, but I've just noticed that they are looking very poor.
Your mention of broken limb in your Jonagold reminded me of my father. He was a ruthless pruner, and always had nice big fruit on his trees. Knowing that the fruit keeps working its way farther and farther out on the limbs from season to season, he emphasized the need to prune to prevent broken limb damage. "Either you can prune it, or mother nature will prune it for you," he would say. I do miss him, but my oh my he was a ruthless pruner!
I shall be following in your father's footsteps this winter. The Jonagold has grown with very low branches, and needs to change its habits. I have difficulty mowing around it. It might look a bit odd for the next few years.
Oh come on, the taste is what makes them so good. Quality not quantity and all that.
I cannot live without peaches and nectarines and also apricots. But I am sure they do not taste anything like as good as yours.
We always looked forward to peach season. Nothing better than home grown.
Delicious fruit. I also love ripe juicy Pears from the garden.
Homegrown are always best. They taste better, and are free.
We get peacharines here which are now my favorite as they are the perfect mix of the two summer fruits and not overly juicy.
