We are all familiar with the Supermarket 'BOGOF' deals, usually on cornflakes or sugary children's drinks. But to find that my local (very good) bakery has started a similar scheme, rather surprised me.
Regardless of a free 7th baguette, I would still buy my weekly supply of three baguettes and two 'boules'. I really cannot see what they stand to gain by handing out freebies. Stamping the small card, with different symbols for each baguette bought, is time consuming, and is of no advantage to the baker.
I shall not refuse my free 7th baguette, but I do find the whole exercise a bit puzzling. Perhaps the 'tempting offer' is just for one week only.
I should add that these 'Baguettes Tradition' are totally delicious, and now that our usual baker has recently been sold, we have changed allegiance to the, much nearer, maker of the above.
Next Saturday, I shall return home with FOUR baguettes. Yippee!

Only yesterday returning from the market in Ludlow with two French baguettes I said to the husband how all my life I have been on a quest to replicate the taste of the bread I experienced in the hotel we stayed at in Le Touquet. At the time I must have been five, even now I can still taste it and have never got even close. The wonderment is with me still.

As long as you've got a freezer it's a bargain. You will have baguettes coming out of your ears.
I have fond memories of baguettes too from holidays in France, once upon a time. The things they call baguettes here are a pale imitation
I imagine the free one must be for Sunday. Austria is a country which also sells lots of baguettes and Sunday is traditionally the day of the Sontag's Ei (the Sunday boiled egg).
We become very critical of our bread. These baguettes above are more like Sourdough than Yeast bread, but I'm assured they're not. They are almost perfect.
We always freeze a few, and they last the week. Buying bread just once a week is so much easier.
Fresh baguettes we tend to eat with Paté or good Ham. Boiled eggs for breakfast are reserved for winter.
I find loyalty cards tiresome and hate them. At the station buffet where I used to go for coffee every morning on my way to work I got fed up with fumbling around for the card and then having it stamped and 10 people waiting that we came to an agreement the staff would occasionally give me a free coffee. That was fine with me and it worked.
I’ve never really been a lover of BOGOF ...... you have to have space to store all the extras and I don’t want it all !!! They reckon it’s another reason that some are overweight too ! But I’m probably cutting off my nose to spite my face !!!! A good French baguette is delicious but I think you have to eat it a fresh as possible. They don’t stay that way for long do they ? XXXX
That sounds much more sensible; I think I'd prefer that at the baker's. A free baguette every so often.... for a friend.
We freeze most of them. As long as they're not in the freezer for more than about 5 days, they come out perfect.
The very mention of a baguette makes my mouth water.
There are good and bad. Supermarket baguettes are usually like cotton wool; a well made baguette is heaven.

Yes it was. This also used to happen at the lunchtime place I went to.
I appreciate it when cafes do this and every so often one gets a free cup of coffee. I don't think it affects where I choose to go though. Sometimes I've puzzled shop-keepers by turning down the extra whatever it is on the grounds that I only need one.

The problem is that I'd be a loyal customer anyway. Good bakers have a queue outside the door.
A free baguette certainly wouldn't make me change bakers.
