Lady Magnon has been making her mincemeat; always a good sign.
Goodness knows what goes into it. Vast amounts of different types of dried fruits, chopped prunes, preserved peel, spices, brandy, and Atora Suet. The Suet I had wisely bought online as it isn't available here, other than in butchery form.
To me, Christmas ain't Christmas without a plentiful supply of Lady M's Mince Pies. Above are several kilos of her mixture, and there will be several more kilos before the big day. She is a slave to her mixing bowl at this time of year, and she hasn't even mentioned the cake yet.
Her kitchen assistant (Boo Boo) can't wait to bake and sample the first lot; and of course to have a wish! (Actually, me too!)
You have inspired me to make some
ReplyDeleteI can hardly wait for the first baking!
DeleteGood grief, that is going to be an awful lot of mince pies.
ReplyDeleteThey disappear almost as soon as they're made... and she makes a lot at a time.
DeleteI would so like some really good home made mince pies. Can I give you my address?
ReplyDeleteNone left! Sorry.
DeleteI made my mince meat last week. Mince pies tomorrow. No suet around here and no Amazon either so I use good old Marg.
ReplyDeleteYou've got to get Lady Ms recipes online. Start another blog. Cooking with Cro
I think she used a recipe from a book my mother gave to her when we were married. I'll put it up on a separate page.
DeleteThe only time I tried making them the pastry was awful and I've bought them ever since. My mid-morning coffee (one of them anyway) is not complete at the moment without a mince pie and Greek yoghurt.
ReplyDeleteLady M seems to have perfected her pastry; t'was not always thus. These days they are very good. I must say, I've never eaten a nasty shop-bought one.
DeleteHubby is pastry chef in our house, we had our 1st run of mince pies and sausage rolls over the weekend, Christmas is on its way.
ReplyDeleteSausage rolls as well? You really are getting in the mood. I'm not sure when Lady M plans on baking her first pies; soon I hope. I trust you made a wish!
DeleteI've just told Paul that as it's the first of December tomorrow he must start baking his mince pies.
ReplyDeleteIt's almost Christmas... of course he must start. Don't forget to have a stir of the mincemeat; in a clockwise direction of course.
DeleteChristmas would not be right without mince.
ReplyDeleteYou should be eating mince pie any day now. Boo Boo as assistant baker must be lots of fun.
Lady M baked a Tarte Tatin yesterday, but added just one mince pie for us at the same time. I made my wish!
