Living in Brighton & Hove

A friend recently sent me this Wintery video of Brighton. It even includes my favourite shop, TAJ (1 min 26), although it doesn't show much of it.

If you don't know my dinky UK city, or you only know it by name, I think this gives a reasonable idea of what it's like. Note how 'young' everyone is, it makes me feel like an imposter. Enjoy.

  1. Loads of activity and outdoor living even in winter. Lovely video. I can see why you enjoy your time there

    1. It's a great place to live.
I'm having real Internet problems this morning, so please forgive me if I can't reply to comments. I will as soon as I can.

    1. It's an accurate representation. Of course there are areas more inland which aren't so nice.

  3. A rather interesting clip. Our one day in Brighton did not do it justice, but we liked what we saw and it had a great atmosphere that was not about air quality. I suppose as such an attractive place, accommodation must be expensive. Hove looks rather interesting and may be a bit cheaper.

    1. Hove is simply less fun, it's an older community.

  4. This was super good to look at. I lived in the North Laine area for the first 22 years of my life, two streets away from the Royal Pavilion, so all of these areas were part of my life. I still love it but, now that my parents have passed away and the house has been sold, plus my cousins have all moved to Worthing, I don't go down there anymore. I should!

    1. We live about 200 yards from the clocktower; very centrally, but extremely quiet. I lived in Worthing from age 14 to 18; not quite the same.

  5. Although Brighton is not in Yorkshire, I have to admit that it is a great little city. A liberal atmosphere and a healthy variety of residents - not all of them rolling in money by any means. Its location by the sea adds to its sense of freedom. When I hear about expensive stag or hen parties venturing abroad, I often say - Why not try Brighton instead?

    1. Exactly what my son has just done! He's getting married in 7 weeks time and his twin brother and the other groomsmen organised a fun, activity weekend for him and they all had an amazing time.

    2. I trust that you have already purchased a flamboyant wedding hat so that you can outdo the bride's mother.

    3. We see gangs of Hen Party members all the time. I always say 'hello'.

    4. With a name like Cro you should crow to the hens. Cock-a-doodle-do!

    5. Not so much of the 'cock' with young virgin brides!!!

  6. Brighton looks like a fun (and beautiful) place to live. I loved the idea that people take their wine and beer to the beach to relax after work. It sounds like Shangri- La.

    1. People take bottles of wine to the park where I walk with Billy.

  7. Brighton is vibrant and has much to offer. Spending time in rural France and Brighton is quite the contrast. 2 very different worlds.

    1. When I drive to my local supermarket (on Mondays) I rarely encounter another vehicle on the 25 km trip. in the UK it's non stop traffic.

  8. Pretty, happy little town. That treat probably would have been too sweet for me, too.

    1. I'm not a Fudge eater either; as you say, far too sweet.

  9. It looks like a very wonderful place! Now I really would like to visit sometime. After I win the lottery, so I can spend a decent amount of time.
In Adelaide, our Brighton and hove are next to each other also, but neither is as nice as yours. Hove is the more expensive suburb for houses, but I don't recall any shopping areas there. Brighton is cheaper and a bit tackier, there are hotels and fish'n'chip shops, a cafe or two if I remember right. Nothing there is as brightly coloured as in the video.
I love fudge, but usually make my own.

    1. I didn't know you too had a Brighton and Hove. There are quite a few Brightons around. Was the girl right about Fudge being made from milk and sugar? I'm sure there are other ingredients; too sweet for me I'm afraid.

    2. Milk and sugar, yes, also butter and flavourings. My recipe has chocolate, unsalted butter, sugar, a few drops of real vanilla, and evaporated milk. And marshmallows, I just checked the recipe.

  10. Nice little video Cro. I spent a couple of years living in Brighton and working in Hove and have some happy memories. It does seem very much like a 'young' persons place now.
