Where it all Began.

Now disbanded, my favourite Brighton band (Los Albertos) were founded in the Pub' below; The Prince Albert.

They were a bunch of rowdy, highly talented, unwashed, layabouts, who produced wonderfully energetic music.

Here they are playing 'Fall From Grace'. I may even have been in the audience.

I just happened to be passing by The Prince Albert yesterday, and noticed that it's been given a new lick of paint. Looks nice; doesn't it!

    1. They were a great band. Rough-n-ready, but really got things going.

  2. Interesting paint job there. Those coloured wheelie bins blend in rather well.

    1. Just to the right of the photo is the famous Banksy painting of the two kissing policemen.

  3. Colourful, yes, but I think it looks awful! I'd dislike it more if I lived over the road - the noise on summer live music nights could be even worse.

    1. You old spoilsport! It's actually in a non-residential spot, by Brighton Station. So not too much disturbance.

    2. OK then. But I would not like the Royal Albert Hall painted with Opera singers and their bands!

  5. From the stable of The Blockheads and Madness I'd guess. I like it but wouldn't be able to keep up with them these days.

    1. Nor me. Nor could they, which is probably why they disbanded.

    1. Formentera was always my favourite Summer destination. Cala Sahona was my playground. It looks very different these days!

  7. The side of the pub looks brilliant now. I thought a "Prince Albert" was an intimate male piercing. The idea of having one makes my eyes water.

    1. I shall not be making enquiries as to what represents a 'Prince Albert'; it might damage my sensitive nature.

  8. With the new paint job, there's no historic designation for the Prince Albert. It's more ode to ???.

    1. The front (on left) is still quite traditional. I should add that I've NEVER been inside.

  9. I love the look of The Prince Albert …. our children's bedrooms look similar when they were teenagers…… the walls were covered in pictures of their favourite bands !
That band really got the crowd going… brilliant. XXXX

    1. They were superb. I tried to get them to come to France for my 60th, but it was all too complicated and expensive. Pity!

  10. I like it, it's fun and colourful. I like the more traditional frontage too.
The music is pretty good, just not my cup of tea.

  11. The Albert used to be my husband's 'local' because he worked along Frederick Street.
I have never been in either!
