Now disbanded, my favourite Brighton band (Los Albertos) were founded in the Pub' below; The Prince Albert.
They were a bunch of rowdy, highly talented, unwashed, layabouts, who produced wonderfully energetic music.
Here they are playing 'Fall From Grace'. I may even have been in the audience.
Good sound!
ReplyDeleteThey were a great band. Rough-n-ready, but really got things going.
DeleteInteresting paint job there. Those coloured wheelie bins blend in rather well.
ReplyDeleteJust to the right of the photo is the famous Banksy painting of the two kissing policemen.
DeleteColourful, yes, but I think it looks awful! I'd dislike it more if I lived over the road - the noise on summer live music nights could be even worse.
ReplyDeleteYou old spoilsport! It's actually in a non-residential spot, by Brighton Station. So not too much disturbance.
DeleteOK then. But I would not like the Royal Albert Hall painted with Opera singers and their bands!
DeleteIt could happen.... watch this space!
DeleteLooks nice...ok.
ReplyDeleteIt's quite impressive.
DeleteFrom the stable of The Blockheads and Madness I'd guess. I like it but wouldn't be able to keep up with them these days.
ReplyDeleteNor me. Nor could they, which is probably why they disbanded.
DeleteFrank Zappa
ReplyDeleteJim Morrison
David Bowie
Jimi Hendrix
Syd Barret
Janis Joplin
John Lennon
George Harrison
Syd Vicious
Bob Marley
Tom Petty
Aretha Franklin
Me gusta la musica.
Y fui hippy en Formentera.
Formentera was always my favourite Summer destination. Cala Sahona was my playground. It looks very different these days!
DeleteThe side of the pub looks brilliant now. I thought a "Prince Albert" was an intimate male piercing. The idea of having one makes my eyes water.
ReplyDeleteI shall not be making enquiries as to what represents a 'Prince Albert'; it might damage my sensitive nature.
DeleteWith the new paint job, there's no historic designation for the Prince Albert. It's more ode to ???.
ReplyDeleteThe front (on left) is still quite traditional. I should add that I've NEVER been inside.
DeleteI love the look of The Prince Albert …. our children's bedrooms look similar when they were teenagers…… the walls were covered in pictures of their favourite bands !
ReplyDeleteThat band really got the crowd going… brilliant. XXXX
They were superb. I tried to get them to come to France for my 60th, but it was all too complicated and expensive. Pity!
DeleteI like it, it's fun and colourful. I like the more traditional frontage too.
ReplyDeleteThe music is pretty good, just not my cup of tea.
The Albert used to be my husband's 'local' because he worked along Frederick Street.
ReplyDeleteI have never been in either!
