  1. I just don't understand why a shipping container is the abode of choice. Why not build pretty cabins, or purchase an older home and create a B and B? I may be incorrect, but didn't you say they were to be partially buried in the ground? It honestly sounds like some kind of wacky paramilitary compound. Perhaps a big hedge can be planted all around it, so you won't have to see it.

    1. According to the planning permission they have to be semi-buried in the ground, with any parts left showing covered with wooden planks. No way is that going to happen. He also has to plant hedges, and build banks all around. I can't see that happening either.

  2. Is that it? It doesn't look as though they will be ready this year.

    1. We were told that they come 'ready to use'; all he had to do was connect electricity, water, and waste pipes, and that was it. Doesn't look like that to me!

  3. I still can't believe permission was given to this crazy project.

  4. Nice to see the French fully embracing Capatalism! Think off all that lovely created wealth trickling down and benefiting the local community.

    1. He has reinforced pockets, no 'trickling' allowed!

  5. Oh no. The eyesores having arrived to put a blight on the village.
I can only think the developer must have bought them as a cheap job lot.
I will be looking out for progress reports.

  7. Plant a couple of rose bushes in front of them, and they will be fine.

  8. And I expect if you had wished to add on a small extension which tied in beautifully with the architecture of your lovely cottage then planning permission would have been refused. Such is life these days - sadly.

    1. I wonder what they'd say if I asked for permission to add a couple of containers to the house?

  9. Stop fussing. If you come back to England you can take the alternative we have to offer in the countryside and be surrounded by travellers camps who get every blessing going and anointed with the holy waters of the EU, the government and the local planning department and the police. Ask to put a house up for your child in a three acre garden and you get turned down: it is against the local plan. Travellers sites aren't.

    1. I always think that travellers shouldn't be 'moved-on'; they should be locked in, and a hefty fine charged for their exit.

  10. Well, I can’t imagine anyone wanting to stay in one ..... to be half underground in an old shipping container doesn’t sound like the ideal holiday to me ..... being the optimist that I am, maybe the finished article will look better than you think considering that most of it wil be buried !!!!! 12. Why would anyone want to spend their money and precious vacation time in a half buried shipping container? How horrible for everyone.

    1. That remains to be seen. I suppose a few might see it as a 'novelty'.
