Driving Home For Christmas

I've always liked the nostalgic feeling in this song. Going HOME for Christmas.

In the illustrations, all the children have scarves, a sledge, and a scruffy dog; just as life should be at this time of year. Enjoy.

  1. Oh dear, don't mind the song, but do so hate these "cutsey" pictures. Surprised that you've chosen to post them. Surely you have something far better to use that either you or Lady M. has painted?

    1. I was looking quite hard at them; they remind me of those cards painted by mouth, or foot. They have a naive idealism about them, which is perfectly represented by the children with sledges and dogs, which I mentioned above. You're right, they are dreadful, which is part of the charm.

    2. Yes, I can see your reasoning, it's the naivety that is appealing - a life that doesn't actually exist outside the American Dream. I have seen some incredible foot and mouth paintings by British Artists - unbelievably talented.

  2. I love it. Second favourites after the Pogues and Kirsty Mac Coll.

  4. A happy song Cro ..... this is the time of year for nostalgia.
That picture reminds me of those awful Thomas Kincaid paintings ..... maybe it is one but, it sums up the feeling of Christmas that we had in the 1950's !! Christmas cards all used to be like that when I was a child.
I know what you mean about the mouth and foot paintings ..... I used to get them in the post with a letter trying to get me to buy them. XXXX

    1. That's how I see them too; very 1950's, but probably painted recently. Perfect Christmas scenes.

  6. My favorite song is, "There is No Place Like Home For the Holidays", which has the same message. How fortunate those of us who have a home and love to surround us are.

    1. Yes, we should all be grateful, so many have very little this Christmas.

  7. I think you are a bit of an old sentimentalist Cro. But I do agree with being grateful that we have home and loved ones at Christmas (and full bellies and warmth).

    1. A bit of sentimentality does one good. Father was the same; I take after him.

  8. Christmas should be traditional in my view. Hope you have a good one Cro.

  9. I love this song and all the cake tin pics as well. Looking forward to driving home for Christmas across the plains with all the colourful crepe myrtles in bloom dotted amongst the olive trees in my outback garden.
