Death Wish?

From Coco Chanel to Janis Joplin and now Peaches Geldof; so many have diced with death, and sadly lost.

I can perfectly understand the person who enjoys smoking a bit of weed at the weekend, or has a Gin and Tonic after work each day, but to inject yourself with one of the most dangerously addictive drugs known to mankind, is, frankly, just plain DUMB.

How many people, I wonder, immediately said 'drugs', on hearing that Peaches Geldof had been found dead. Most of us, probably!

The pain of being rich and famous is so often masked or relieved by hard Class A drugs. Did no-one tell young Peaches that Heroin would KILL her?

Having a mother who died of exactly the same thing really should have been a warning. She never got over her own mother's death from Heroin, and I don't suppose her two young sons will get over their mother's either!

Sad, self-centred, and stupid.

  1. Being shot up with heroin was one of the best days of my life. That drug is amazing. But I also used to fake stomach aches at the age of 6 so my mom would give me paregoric.

Nicotine is just about as addictive as heroin.

Oh and I don't think Chanel died from that drug - I think you're reading too much Daily Mail - but if she did die from an overdose at the age of 87 - well, good for her.

    1. I can't remember where I read about Chanel. I think she featured in a list of people who'd died from Heroin overdose. Maybe they were wrong.

re Nicotine, after about 45 years of smoking I gave up in ONE DAY.

    2. That is awesome! (and I don't use that word lightly).

But for some, addictions are their love and a lot more. And it's not so easily given up and they're not stupid. I could talk about this for ages, but won't bore you.

  2. I really think it is a consequence of having too much money. If one has to worry about finding the money for a quarterly utilities bill which is enormously expensive in Australia, one tends to think about putting food on the table rather than keeping a heroin dealer in luxury !

  3. I gave up smoking but I can't stop processed sugar!!

My sister was addicted to this horrible drug and it destroyed everyones life. The biggest problem with this drug is the "help" you get trying to get off it. Addaction is poor service and costs a fortune to run, you have no chance of sorting yourself out under their care.

  4. There is a selfishness in her behaviour that I cannot bear...she had children she should have thought of each time she decided to pursue her pleasure...

  6. Heroin is a very big problem and almost an epidemic in the US. It often starts with prescription drugs and moves to heroin because it is much cheaper. It is a drug that knows no economic status and the addicticted come from all walks of life. Most people know someone or a family whose lives have been forever changed by this horrible drug (which is often tainted with other additives) and it is heart breaking.

  7. I wonder what was so unbearable in her life that she felt she needed to alter her reality to get through it.

  8. Every time I read of some celebrity dying of an overdose my reaction is not "How sad", but rather "How stupid". I'm like you, I smoked for more than 20 years and just flat quit one day, haven't smoked since.

  9. My next door neighbor is a crack junkie, the chaos of her life is unavoidable to anyone that comes near her. Especially when she chooses to light a a chainsaw at midnight for no dam reason at all. I wish she would do us all a favor and simply off herself with an overdose.
