Cro's been a very naughty boy, and has been caught. The Governor's been round to see me, and asked what I'd like for my FINAL MEAL. I had to think hard, but this is what I eventually requested.
Entrée: Bread (from Freyssinet le G) with a good piquant Paté Basque, hard boiled eggs (my own) with Mayo, and a small mixed salad.
Main course: Confit de Canard, sautéed potatoes with cèpes, and a few squeaky Haricots vert.
Cheese: More bread (from Freyssinet le G), St Agur and mature Cheddar cheese.
Fruit: A perfectly ripe, warm from the tree, Peach.
Wine: Two bottles of Vin de Table from the nice lady at St Martin de Redon.
And lastly, a bag of Maynards Wine gums (just the black and green ones) for when I take that final walk.
Have you ever considered the same question?
Good grief, even if it was my last meal I doubt I could eat that much even if the quantities were small.
ReplyDeleteI'd make it last for several years.
DeleteMorning Cro - sounds good to me - I would have to give it quite some consideration - it would be pleasant whiling away a few hours in my cell dreaming of lovely food. You may be interested in a post I did on bread at http://elaineintheslowlane.blogspot.com (bread would definitely feature in my last meal).
ReplyDeleteI agreed with every word. How come I've missed your other blog?
DeleteNow I see you have FOUR!
DeleteI've been thinking about this as I have gone about my morning chores. Decision made.
ReplyDeleteI would want a selection of wonderful crusty breads, a large pat of butter and a hunk of really good strong cheese, a dish of pickles, a large, crisp, cold apple. A cup of tea, made just the way I like it, served in a pretty china mug.
I suspect that really good bread and cheese might be amongst the most popular last requests!
Deletemy ideal meal has changed over the years, but it would now be champagne and Indian food, served by Jonny Depp, stark naked except for a tiny pinny to preserve his modesty hee hee hee
ReplyDeleteI presume you mean over his backside!
DeleteI'm just wondering what on earth you have done!
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying!
DeleteI like the bread and cheese idea, especially with a nice assortment of olives and a glass of wine. But I'd also want sushi, spring rolls, chocolate cake, cheesecake, key lime pie, a huge chocolate chip cookie, chinese noodles, and a lot of fresh fruit. And a cup of coffee. With a cigarette.
ReplyDeleteSmoking can damage your health; you may not be allowed the cigarette!
DeleteI can never understand how anyone keeps a healthy appetite when they know that they will be killed in a few hours.
ReplyDeleteActually, Yes I have. I figure I will stuff myself with dairy products, something I can't with any degree of safety eat, but seeing as I'm going to be "put down" it won't matter.
ReplyDeletewow, what would it be like to be eating your last meal? would your taste buds be in a high state of awareness and would everything taste extra good (like dining al fresco)? it could be ecstatic experience.
ReplyDeleteBut maybe I'd pick all my least favorite foods: liver and onions with lima beans. Just so I wouldn't be missing anything in the hereafter.
Chocolate covered strawberries from California and a nice bottle of Pinot Noir also from Califonia, Napa preferred. I could drink it all as I would not have to worry about the headache I would have the next morning.
ReplyDeleteUm, no, can't say that I've ever considered this particular subject before, but I'm thinking about it now. Hard to pick, though, because I like all kinds of food. Seafood ... crab. Duck, with the skin well-browned and crispy. Maybe duck stuffed with back-fin crab meat. There's the ticket. Bread fresh from the oven, yeasty and chewy. Real butter, slathered on the bread while it's still warm. Fine wine. Bread pudding with bourbon caramel sauce, a slice of lemon meringue pie, and two perfect pieces of semi-sweet chocolate, topped off by a cigarette or rum-dipped cigar. (Heck, why not?)
