Happiness is....

This may sound odd, but happiness for me really is......a new blade on the chainsaw.

I've just fitted a new blade to my trusty smallish Husqvarna, and it glides through these hefty oak logs in an instant. We both heat and cook with wood, so when you have to do as much log-sawing as we do; a good blade is essential.

My neighbour has just offered me a whole load more Chestnut; the type that comes in 'tree' form. It'll keep me and the Husqvarna busy for weeks. As I've said before; there's nowt like a good stock of logs; we'll soon have enough for up until 2015 (or even later).

There's an old saying that 'Sawing (or chopping) wood, warms you twice'. It certainly does!

  1. Those chainsaws frighten the socks off me. They have a life of their own - often heading straight for the jugular. Paul often makes me hold the logs while he cuts them - I'm sure I'll lose my fingers one day. Go careful!

  3. Nothing like being prepared with a lot of good dry wood on hand. Do you have a log splitter as well? Dad lost the end of his finger using one of those.

  5. We lost a lot of large limbs in the ice storm this winter. WT's chainsaw has gone to chainsaw heaven. He'll be shopping for a new one soon.

  8. Bob is never hppier than when we go looking for wood with the trusty chainsaw,as we have a lot of hard woods over here he got a bigger one last winter and used both now,the typical Aussie man wears his jeans and flanno(flanelette shirt)when in the bush...I often feel like singing that 'I'm a lumberjack and i'm ok" song at him lol there is nothing quite like that wonderful packed up pile of wood.

  9. And it's freezing here tonight! There's nothing as welcoming as a roaring log fire in the grate!
    Looks a tidy little saw!

  10. My mom used to have a hot plate pad that had the saying on it, "He who chops his own wood is twice warmed"...
