As a lowly painter, one can but dream of riches and reputation. But this is limited to a select few.
Even if one sells something just 'every so often', one can feel rewarded, but when one sells a major work, it's pure elation.
OK, I may be one of the world's most famous, and highly-collected British artists, but I still have to pay for my private jet, my tailor's bill in Jermyn Street, my grocery account at Harrods, and my permanently booked suite at The Savoy. And all that requires MONEY!
£150,000 divided by 60 years as a professional painter equals an income of £250 per annum.
Sotheby's have promised to send the cheque a.s.a.p.

Cro Magnon-Moneylender we now have your name..... you redacted the first and biggest... but not the ones in the text.... you might want to editorate that....
And nice one..... have you got any that you can sell at auction and get the same as a lump sum to fund your current lifestyle.....
Oh, and you might get to spend more time in your idyll as the 90/180 rule is apparently being looked at for second homeowners.

Surely that painting is by Marc Chagall. He died in 1985 at the age of 97.
He did attempt to copy me, but failed miserably.

I once read an article arguing that artists, should receive a percentage of the profits from resales, during their lifetime, it would be really hard to track and most likely drive art sales underground.

How vibrant! And playful. Have you thought of starting a rumor that you are dead? That seems to work. Then you could do a Mark Twin, "The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated." if you get bored with being dead. With AI no one will ever figure it out.
