I bought Billy just two Christmas presents this year. A bag of 'Beefy' treats, and this rubber Lamb.
What more could a Border Collie desire than his very own Sheep to round-up, and control. He loved it at once, and they became inseparable.
The toy is made of soft rubber, and had a very annoying squeak.
The fact that it was so popular also made it an easy target for destruction, and it is already in bits.
The squeak has been silenced, and the legs have already been mauled. I've noticed that the inside is filled with wool (very apt), and, frankly, it has become a 'hazard'.
So, I'm sorry to say that it has been binned! Billy has been looking everywhere for it, but to no avail.
Will I buy him a replacement? No, I think not. Too noisy, and too flimsy.

ReplyDeleteI thought perhaps I was being a bit unfair, so I binned it. I wasn't being unfair, of course, but telling the truth these days can bring problems.

ReplyDeleteThough dog toys often don't last long. The more they love it, the shorter its life.
I wanted to buy him one of those toys that move around by themselves, but the big 'Dogs-r-Us' store I visited didn't have them. The Sheep was second-best.

ReplyDeleteOver the 2&1/2 years I've had her, I've bought my dog quite a few soft toys - (specifically made for dogs) and they all seem quite robust. She hasn't actually destroyed any of them but loves to suck on them - presumeably they are some sort of comfort to her. If you come across a store called TEDI anywhere near you, go in and have a look at their dog toys - they have a good selection.
A year ago I bought him a red and white striped, soft-woven, candy stick. He loved it, and still has it somewhere; although it no longer looks much like it did when it was new. I shall have a look for a Sheep-replacement.
DeletePoor Billy! He needs something to play with. Steve at "Shadows and Light" always had "Kong" toys for the late Olga. Try A.Coombs Pet Centre on Baker Street or "Bone Idol" which must have been named after Boris Johnson.
ReplyDeleteI did find a chewable toy politician on 'Reds-r-Us', but it seems that they are being recalled on account of poor quality.
DeleteI can't buy anything that squeaks for my two! Completely demolished within 5 mins. The inherited jack Russell, 17 this year, gets his terrier instinct immediately. The soon to be 3yrs old lab mainly carries but usually anything that squeaks doesn't see the day out.

DeleteBilly needs a few toys. Having no toys, especially after he loved his Christmas sheep seems wrong. Amazon has lots of toys to consider and they will deliver to your door in a day or two. I know!

DeleteCro, I know you are probably aware of this, but since my kids all have big dogs, I buy them those that are supposedly 'indestructible'(maybe). I think I got the last one from Amazon. But you were right to throw the sheep away once it became a hazard.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter adopted a greyhound. He had never had a toy before and didn't know what to do with it. Sad, but true.
