Dark days at the Beeb.
Isn't it amazing that it takes a foreign President to clear out some of the biased dross at the BBC. Sadly there are many more in the 'Wokey-Kokey-Klub' who should be shown the door. We really MUST have an independent news service that reports without bias, especially when it concerns foreign politics; whether that be left, right, or anywhere in between. The whole world used to rely on the accuracy and impartiality of the BBC; that, sadly, is now at risk.
Both Davie and Turness should have known better. These are not stupid people. Davie was well-educated, and even stood as an MP (unsuccessfully). Ms Turness is also no stranger to good education (even though she was expelled from school), and has degrees from two universities (Surrey and Bordeaux).
Davie was the BBC's Director General; and the buck had to stop with him! And Turness was Chief Executive of BBC News. Neither are positions that should involve corruption. Both have now resigned after Tr*mp's intervention. And rightly so!
The UK often accuses the USA of getting involved in overseas politics; and now here WE are, found to have been meddling in the last Presidential election, in the most unacceptable way.
Whatever their politics, they should certainly NOT be 'doctoring' video coverage. The USA's own electorate can decide who they wish to run their country, without any help from the BBC, and they chose Tr*mp.
The BBC always had an excellent reputation for impartiality; that reputation has been seriously eroded in recent times. We've had the Gaza film scandal, the use of woke nonsense to describe pregnant women, and all the Savile, Bashir, Edwards, and Wallace, episodes; the list goes on. To gain a reputation takes time, to lose it can be instantaneous.
I hear that Tr*mp will be claiming 'damages' against the BBC. Well, I hope he wins, because that would be 'right'; and one should always be on the side of what it 'right'. But at the same time I hope he gives gives any settlement to charity.
Aunty's now looking extremely tarnished.
p.s. Just in case you are unaware, 'Aunty' is what English people call the BBC.

'Davie and Turness are not stupid people's
ReplyDeleteActually, that is exactly what they are, there were following an agenda but were found out, and as is so typical in such circumstances try and divert the attention elsewhere
They may well have been educated, but they were still stupid to think that there would be be a day of reckoning at some point.
I meant 'not stupid' only in the educational sense. Otherwise of course they were stupid, and we can't have such people at the very top of the Corporation. I think there may well be more resignations to come.
DeleteAnd how great the damage they caused us with their false reports. It has such a pervasive effect in so many circles, a devastating effect, even on a very personal level, even for me here in blogland, when people believed and quoted from their false reports, which they themselves admit to today.
ReplyDeleteThe BBC always used to have a reputation for being fair and honest, sadly that is no longer the case. Many who work there now have a political agenda that they force onto us as often as possible. It's not what it was!
DeleteI'm not sure but suspect that the BBC have never been impartial. When I was young they were the only source of news other than newspapers. Now with the internet we all have choice. It allows people to pick between left and right wing opinions.
ReplyDeleteReport the truth and if they don't like it then don't report it.
Or 'report it' but change the facts.
DeleteThey have made themselves into judge and jury, instead of just sticking to reporting facts.
ReplyDeleteBeing on the side of what's obviously 'right' is OK, but expressing political opinions isn't. As you say, they should stick to facts.
DeleteI'm no fan of Trump with his limited and childish vocabulary, but I wish him well on this one. The BBC will be forced to cave into him by Friday otherwise it will just become a bigger story.
ReplyDeleteIt should have been a wake up call to many when the BBC blatantly and openly took sides in the Brexit issue.
I've not heard the term 'Aunty' in a while. I think it was mostly used when they were more trusted.
It's amazing to think that a decision was actually made to change the video of Tr*mp. If he does win some compensation, and I hope he does, maybe he could build a new hospital wing somewhere; or a school even!
DeleteI watch Al Jazeera for a more comprehensive coverage of world events. Then there's the Greek TV coverage. A little bit of this and a little bit of that.
ReplyDeleteI do like the BBC for Royal events.
Yes they do pageantry very well.
DeleteIn my view, the BBC has always shown bias towards "the establishment" and conservative politics. This business with the Panorama programme has been blown out of proportion. Politicians' speeches are hardly ever reported in full because that can be so long so editing is essential. I thought that the Panorama editing of Trump's January 6th speech fairly captured the core essence of that rabble-rousing oration. By the way, last week Trump gave an awful interview to the American current affairs programme "60 Minutes" and insisted on various edits before broadcasting happened. So hypocritical.
ReplyDeleteYP, blown out of proportion indeed. And I quote:
Delete"If Trump chooses to sue, Stephens [international media lawyer at the firm Howard Kennedy] said the case would bring renewed attention to Trump’s comments, and any role he might have played in fomenting the violence of January 6. (Trump claims he did no such thing.)"
“If he sues, he opens a Pandora’s box, and in that Pandora’s box is every damning quote he’s ever uttered about Jan 6,” said Stephens. “So this isn’t the hill to die on, in my view. It’s a legal cliff edge, and if he jumps, there’s a high chance he’ll fall.”
Pandora's Box indeed. Lucky those of us who don't fall on their own sword.
I have this [called it naive] belief in our elders' wisdom. Trump is nearing eighty. My father nearing ninety. Neither lives up to my expectation. Disappointment is mine.Though dare say that where Trump is shrewd, my father is more educated. Same difference.
U
What worries me the most is the decline in everyday standards. Even the language, dress, and people, have gone downhill. After Jonathan Ross's disgusting radio outburst, I'd imagined he'd never be seen again, but he's back again, and being paid by the BBC. It seems that nothing is now beyond how low they will sink.
DeleteI find it interesting that the only people to defend the BBC's obvious bias, are openly Left Wingers. Hmmmm!
DeleteFrom the north American side of the pond, BBC is still one of the best news sources in the world. Yes, it has a bias, the daily bleeding heart human interest stories.
ReplyDeleteThat's good to hear. It always had that reputation. Sadly there have been so many scandals recently that its reputation is slowly disappearing.
DeleteDon't put too much faith in one person. Especially if said person is a known felon.
ReplyDeleteUS news is less reliable and even slanted due to fear of retaliation.
If you have access to Bloomberg news, you might well benefit. It is mostly world economics, but they do a decent job covering world news.
I have little faith in Tr*mp, although he deserves praise where it's due (if it's due). It's difficult these days to get really independent news. We need to filter!
