It's official, Brighton is the best place to live in the UK for 'wellbeing'.
I don't really know everything that 'wellbeing' involves, but I presume it's another word for 'quality of life'.
It's certainly pleasant to be by the sea, within 50 mins of London, to have good shops at hand, plenty of excellent restaurants, an artistic community, drugs available on every street corner, and some really superb entertainment.
We have a good Football team, the County Cricket team plays here, and all water sports are catered for. And if you're a Petrol Head, the annual speed trials along Madeira Drive in September (?) is amazing.
France is nearby, Gatwick is handy, busses are plentiful, and the train to London runs several times an hour (I think).
Brighton is very multi-cultural, accepts all-comers, and is student-friendly. Sadly I did once witness a few left-wing dungaree wearing young 'ladies' painting Stars of David on the windows of M & S; but I must presume they were either of low IQ, or were just plain Nazi supporters. That form of extreme racism is not welcome here. They have not reappeared since.
So, yes. I have to agree with the article above, we are filled to the brim with 'wellbeing', and our 'free-spirit' is alive and well.

When I lived in Sussex many years ago, Brighton was considered a bit raffish, Hove a bit snooty, Worthing a bit genteel, and Littlehampton, well we didn't much talk about them!
Nothing's changed, although Worthing is slowly going up in the world. Eastbourne has now officially become 'God's Waiting Room'.
It does sound very pleasant. An enjoyable place to live out the rest of your life.
I've just read another article which says Brighton is going to the dogs. Yet another Labour run council that spends money on silly things, rather than on what matters. Graffiti, weeds, druggies, and closed shops; not all is good.
We have three Chemists on three corners.
They will deliver if you can't get out.
I have a HUGE nearby Boots, and their tiny pharmacy is squeezed into one far corner. They should change their name to 'Boots the Make-Up'.
Every place has its advantages and disadvantages, it seems you live in a place that has a lot of advantages.
I think it's almost as good as it gets here in the UK.
Whoever made this assessment probably did not look north of Watford Gap. I freely admit that Brighton is a fine little city with lots of assets but it is as nothing compared with Grimethorpe and Cleckheaton here in Yorkshire.
Grime what? Is that a real place? I'd rather live somewhere with a 'Bright' prefix.
Brighton was one of the places I looked to move to last year. Alas, no suitable properties.
Worthing could be worth looking at. There are plenty of nice period properties, it's very flat, and it's becoming a much younger town.
On the list for our next visit.

It appears you have found your happy place in Brighton. When you want the countryside, you have France.
That's always been the plan. Right in the middle of town here, and way out in the countryside there.
It really depends which media (newspaper or TV) you source your information. I also recall reading that Brighton was going to the dogs, but as I haven't visited for years I can't comment. I do know that as a child I was very disappointed that the beach was shingle - and I'd just had a new bucket and spade!
