Before leaving for Blighty, Lady M gathered a few Bramley apples. We had a huge crop this year, and it seemed silly not to bring a few back.
I think I've mentioned before that Lady M has an Olympic gold medal in Tarte Tatin making, and the one above would probably have also been mentioned in despatches.
Any pie-makers out there who have not yet made a Tarte Tatin should do so immediately; it is by far the very best apple pie there is. Once eaten, never forgotten. Just be careful when you turn it over... which is why Lady M always asks me to do it. Hot syrup burns.
Go for the standard original recipe; it's the best and cannot be improved.

I will google for a recipe immediately. I love apples.
It has always sounded scrumptious but I've never made it. Lucky you having Lady M in the kitchen doing the baking
It's the best apple pie there is. All that sugan and butter; what's not to like?
She tackles everything with flour or sugar, I do everything with meat and veg'.
Oooh. All those yummy calories. Sigh.
There's also a slimming version; you simply let ME eat it all.
How wise for Lady M to save herself and instead rely on your greediness to serve the pie, in spite of the third degree burn risk.
I've recently had a nasty burn on my right arm, but nothing to do with Lady M's Tatin. My own silly fault.
I hope you made a nice dinner to go along with that wonderful pie.
As it was a French evening, we dined on Duck Confit. What better!
Who cares about a spouse's looks or conversation - as long as she/he can bake a scrumptious tarte-tatin!
I'd almost agree with you, but Lady M has a very large rolling pin!
Delicious ..... Lady M certainly knows how to make desserts { and I'm sure her savoury dishes are just as good ! } Do you have cream or ice cream with it ..... or both ? ..... or custard ?XXXX
A large dollop of thick cream. Perfect.
I might look up instructions to make a Tarte Tatin. I have apples that need to be harvested and my usual apple crisps aren't much of a challenge. The fact that a Tarte Tatin needs to be flipped over makes me a bit nervous though.
The flipping-over is always the tricky bit. All will go well as long as it's not too 'wet'.
A winner at any time
I have had plenty of English apple pies but never a tatin - must say it looks delicious.
Indeed.
It's really an upside-down apple pie cooked with caramel. Lovely.
Is there a recipe? There are 100s if not 1000s on the Internet and yours looks scrumptious!
Go for the most basic. If it says add Pineapple or Raspberries ignore it.
