There was a programme on recently about Les Dawson. Fantastic comedian. His mother-in-law jokes were out of this world. Then someone told him they were not pc and he had to stop them but he said mother-in-laws were his greatest fans and loved them and were always asking for more jokes. He was also a great actor. The Roly Polys were ok, I laughed this morning during our slow start to the day.
And I thought you were going to talk about the bug Roly Polys. When I was a bratty child, I used to get the large ones and break them in half. Teeny white things were squirming around inside. Don't know if they were babies or not. I think they are also called Sow Bugs. No, I didn't grow up to be a serial killer.
Just the thing to raise a laugh Cro - British humour at it's best ! Wonderful comedian - I just had to see him sit at a piano and I started to laugh - what faces he could pull ! Watched the Shirley Bassey skit too - hilarious. Someone once said that to play like he did, you actually needed to be a very good "straight" pianist.
Well, I've heard references to Les Dawson for years, but had never before actually seen any performances. I thank you for allowing me to see the Roly-Polys vintage tapping while having a very late breakfast earlier today. Now I do get it.

Optimistic Cro!
The difference between an optimist and a pessimist, is that the optimist enjoys himself whilst waiting for the inevitable! I AM that optimist!
This is a daily, optimistic, 'photos and comments' blog. I make no judgements (only occasionally), just notes. If you wish to comment in any way at all, please feel free. Everything and everyone (except the obdurate and dictatorial) is very welcome.
I was born just south of London, but for the past 50 years I've lived in S W France. I am a painter by profession, and writer by desire. Lady Magnon and I live between an ancient cottage in a tiny village in perfectly tranquil French countryside, and a bijou townhouse in Brighton UK. In France we have plenty of fruit trees, all situated amongst a view that takes the breath away, in the UK we have a handkerchief sized patio. We also have a Border Collie called Billy. I try to treat our planet with respect, and encourage others to do likewise (without preaching).
Contentment is a glass of red, a plate of charcuterie, and a slice of good country bread. Perfect!
Just the thing for a wet and windy Sunday. The Roly Polys were great.
ReplyDeleteAre you a feeder cro?
ReplyDeleteabsolutely great wasn't he? I also watched one of him at the piano with Shirley Bassey...who just couldn't keep a straight face. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteLooking at this photograph makes me feel slim Cro.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could tap dance like tap. Maybe when I'm 90 . . . On a side note, that big screen that comes down scares the daylights out of me.
