Cro's style awards: No 4. Punk.
I rather liked Punk. An explosion in a tramp's wardrobe suddenly became a fashion statement.
My favourite piece of Punk clothing was Vivienne Westwood or Malcolm McLaren's wonderful 'Bum Flap'. Usually in tartan, it served absolutely no purpose; it just hung at the rear doing nothing. Pure genius.
My just teen daughter got a little punk in the mid-eighties and I remember well her crazy hair. I liked her individualism, but some of her friends gave me pause. However, I got to know them and they were great kids who made me laugh. She grew up, moved to California and lives in a hippy community. She was always too cool to live in the uptight east and has a wonderful time being amongst free thinkers. She is also a successful senior sales manager at a famous resort. Punk, hippy, great daughter, she has done well.

the lovely things about where our house is, is that it's a stones throw

Optimistic Cro!
The difference between an optimist and a pessimist, is that the optimist enjoys himself whilst waiting for the inevitable! I AM that optimist!
This is a daily, optimistic, 'photos and comments' blog. I make no judgements (only occasionally), just notes. If you wish to comment in any way at all, please feel free. Everything and everyone (except the obdurate and dictatorial) is very welcome.
I was born just south of London, but for the past 50 years I've lived in S W France. I am a painter by profession, and writer by desire. Lady Magnon and I live between an ancient cottage in a tiny village in perfectly tranquil French countryside, and a bijou townhouse in Brighton UK. In France we have plenty of fruit trees, all situated amongst a view that takes the breath away, in the UK we have a handkerchief sized patio. We also have a Border Collie called Billy. I try to treat our planet with respect, and encourage others to do likewise (without preaching).
Contentment is a glass of red, a plate of charcuterie, and a slice of good country bread. Perfect!
I rather liked punk too. (Still do!) The colour, the silliness, the sheer exuberance. You can't help but smile.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty much how I view them.
DeleteWonder what the ones in the photo are doing now? Do they cringe when they think about how they used to look?
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing. Accountants, estate agents, and social workers probably.
DeleteAccountants estate agents and social workers during the week and punks at weekends many were.
DeleteAnd Bank Managers??
DeleteYes, and solicitors too.
DeleteIt was what fashion needed at the time - a bit of a shake up.
ReplyDeleteAnd, boy, did it get it!
DeleteIs there a second image ? It doesn't show on my phone.
ReplyDeleteYes there's a picture of a 'bum flap'.... Maybe you need a laptop; the shock might be too much for your phone.
Deletenow see below.
DeleteI seem to be missing an image too, and I am on a " proper computer"! (Just got a question mark in a little blue square)
ReplyDeleteThe Punk Police are out, censoring my images.
DeleteI've now added another 'bum flap' picture.

DeleteOoops should have said that it was missing on my laptop this morning. It's there now - remember the boots well !
DeleteNo bum flap here, either. I was so looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteStill no bum flap?
DeleteYour upload of the bum flap and my post must have crossed. I see it now! Not tartan but it'll do. Love the boots.
DeleteThe tartan one has been outlawed.
DeleteI saw the bum flap! This was more my style back in the day (imagine skulls in place of the guns):

I did praise Japan's Harajuku girls in my piece on 'The world's snappiest dressers'. If you type that into my search strip (top left), you'll see.
DeleteI liked the guns too.

ReplyDeleteGood for her. A good example of 'never judge people by their clothes'.
DeleteI loved punk - it was after my time sadly but as always I envy folk who can dress in a 'way out' manner. I never dared.
ReplyDeleteI was away in France, so missed it all.
DeletePunk is alive and well and living in our house. ;)
ReplyDeleteBravo!!!
