Just in case your French is a tad rusty, this sign says that there's a limit of one pot of mustard per household. Rationing!
In fact the whole shelf was empty yesterday morning, so I presume there's been panic buying, and hoarding.
I blame Putin.
A diverse offering twixt the interesting, the unusual, and the amusing.
As soon as our supermarket opens, I will go and buy enough Moutarde de Dijon to last me for the next years!
ReplyDeleteHilde in Germany
No explanation was given for the shortage. Luckily I have a full pot at home.
DeleteJust yesterday I bought a small jar of mustard made in Ukraine. I guess it's been a long time since they made it but it's especially delicious.
ReplyDeleteI've had Latvian Mustard, which was also very good.
DeleteIf Macron wants any Colmans from Norwich we're not letting him have it until he stops the migrant boats in the Channel and agrees our exit from the EU in a more gentlemanly manner than he has so far.
ReplyDeleteQuite right too. He'll certainly be trying to heal old wounds now that he's vulnerable.
DeleteTake a quick trip to Australia, I saw plenty of mustard on the shelves here.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably just the Solstice. It affects the crops.
DeleteNo shortage here either. We have a good stock. Coleman's Mustard powder, mustard seeds, Dijon and a thick spicy greek mustard. It goes so well with the pork
ReplyDeleteRachel will tick you off for having put an 'e' in Colman's. Actually I doubt if there's a shortage anywhere but here! Perhaps the Mustard lorry crashed on the motorway.
DeleteYes yes I was looking at it with horror. You mention one load of Mustard seed and that is so true. We used to haul it (not grow it) and two 30 tonne loads to Colmans was all the seed they needed. That was an awful lot of mustard seeds.
DeleteDamn! I remember being ticked off for that before. I was too darn lazy to look it up. COL-mans Col-mans. Promise I'll get it right next time. Maybe
DeleteOh dear, I had better buy a pot of whole grain mustard today in case the shortage comes to Waitrose! I use it a lot in dressings and sauces.
ReplyDeleteAs I wrote above, I think this is only here. Everywhere else probably has too much.
DeleteWe have plenty of French mustard. Do you need a food parcel?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind offer, but we have a large unopened pot ready for such an occasion.
DeleteTesco still have plenty.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Leclerc will have plenty again next week.
DeleteWhen I grocery shop, I expect some things will be unavailable. Stock varies greatly. Currently, there is no shortage of mustard in the US.
ReplyDeleteA temporary blip, I'm sure.
