Since the season began I should think we've eaten no more than a dozen each. I always get very excited just before they start to drop, then my interest fades. It's the same every year. However, I have bought two jars of ready peeled and cooked nuts for Christmas.
DeleteI didn't realise chestnuts were so versatile or they were grown in orchards. The video was very interesting.

For the last 25 years or so they have been planted in rows in huge plantations; it makes them easier to manage and eventually to harvest.

DeleteThey are my favourite tree. Every fall since I was 7 or so, I always save a chestnut as a good luck charm. there are fewer trees now so it becomes a bit of a quest.
ReplyDeleteI always catch a falling leaf in autumn for good luck. It's worked so far.
