Amazingly, yesterday morning it 'sort of' rained; not much, but it was rain. The perfect opportunity to get-on with this years bottling.
My current glut involves Tomatoes, Peppers, and Aubergines, so I made a Courgette-less Ratatouille. I only made a few jars as I had a mountain of things to do.
We already have quite a good stock in the freezer, so we shan't starve.
And here are the little darlings having been sterilised and cooled. I'll do more in a few days time.
The tiny amount of rain did no good whatsoever, in the afternoon it was back to hot and humid.
You're going to be so happy to open those jars this winter!
ReplyDeleteYou bet! They are so useful in Tagines, Curries, Casseroles, etc; with the added pleasure of knowing that they're totally chemical free.
DeleteLet it break soon.
ReplyDeleteNext Wednesday. They've PROMISED.
DeleteThey look full of summery goodness. I do enjoy all this squirrelling away. MingMing is fascinated by it all, too.
ReplyDeleteShe sounds like a lovely girl. You're very lucky.
DeleteYou are certainly busy over there. I always think a tiny bit of rain in hot weather does more harm than good - but, as the farmer frequently tells me - ' we have to take what comes!'
ReplyDeleteIt really wasn't 'rain', just some light dampness from the sky. We now have to wait till next Wednesday.
DeleteRoll on winter, but let's enjoy autumn first. We had some very heavy rain here. Absolutely bloody wonderful. Going through the pine forests on the way down to town the air is so fresh and clean it's clears up your lungs better than Vicks. H ope you get a good downpour soon.
ReplyDeleteNext week (so they say).
DeleteAhhh .... you're on the case !!!!! Delicious and so useful in so many meals. XXXX
ReplyDeleteYes, this is just the start. I hope to do another 20, or so, bottles.
DeleteSo nice to open those jars in the middle of winter......brings back those long hot days of summer!
ReplyDeleteAnd much better than shop bought.
DeleteHere it will be at least a month until the first rain.I am waiting.
ReplyDeleteNo rain here means no mushrooms, and many people rely on a good crop for their 'tax free pocket money'. WE need a good two day downpour.
DeleteYour freezer will become a summer treasure chest.
ReplyDeleteI like the design of the containers, as well as the looks of their contents.
Best wishes.
And I love to see my store cupboard filled with conserves.
DeleteWe have an awful lot of vegetables to eat before we lock up in a couple of weeks.
ReplyDeleteWhy not bottle it all, and take it back with you to the UK.
DeleteTruth is bottling stuff scares me. I'm frightened of poisoning everyone.
DeletePaté and meats can be dodgy, but vegetable and fruit bottling is usually OK, and the process is very simple.
DeleteYup, that spot of rain was lovely but no where near enough. Still, didn't have to water anything and the rain water butt level rose a couple of inches!
ReplyDeleteYou must have had a lot more than us. Ours was only enough to wet the ground for a few minutes, then it evaporated almost at once.
