Mayflower.

Our May is now out, and time (over here) to cast those clouts.

With temperatures reaching 25C in the afternoons, my shorts and T shirt are order of the day.

Visitors will be subjected to very pale arms and legs for a while, but they'll just have to lump it.

  1. You're a brave man - no shorts for another week or two for me.

    1. I've just been looking at the Metéo... maybe I was hasty.

  2. That is a lovely...and old, by the look of it, Hawthorn.
Here, it is too hot to dig without casting clouts!!
BUT...the soil is at last, digable!

    1. Yes, it must be quite old. Every year I've known the tree it's been home to nesting Ring Doves.

  4. We should be hotter than you by Sunday. All clouts now cast.

  5. There is one school of thought that 'out' (Ne'er cast a clout 'til May is out) means the blossom being 'over and done with', and not 'out' as in full bloom. Your legs may stay white for a little longer.

    1. I'm sticking with 'full bloom', it suits my shorts drawer.

  6. When I returned to NZ earlier this year the brown legs of 10 years of New Zealand summers had worn off and, as I arrived midsummer, I received a lot of comments about people needing sunnies when my legs were reflecting the sun. I coped!

    1. I've given-up being self conscious. When I was younger I worried a lot, but I also tanned faster.

  7. We're still waiting for May to arrive here. No shorts and t-shirts here yet, unless you're a visitor from Canada.

    1. We are having a Provençal day here today; warm with a Mistral-type wind. I think it's trying to tell us something.

  8. Lucky you with sunshine, warm weather and a beautiful tree. It has been raining or cloudy here for two weeks with only short peeks of sunshine. In between the raindrops, I run out to plant. The good thing is that everything is so green and the damp weather is helping the roots to spread.

    1. All my Cabbage type plants are ROMPING. I turn my back for five minutes, and they've doubled in size. A good harvest in prospect (for us both).

  9. Soon you'll have a farmer's tan!

  10. This week's been a rainy one over here, but the sun is going to make a welcome appearance tomorrow...just in time for the weekend. The good side of the rain and chill is that the flowering season has been prolonged.

    Best wishes.

    1. We're supposed to be having a rainy week next week; we need it, as a warm wind has dried things out far too much.
