Yes, you've guessed it; it's the young Cro-ette, circa Summer 1952.
I'm offering it in line with the current fad for posting pictures of our earlier days.
I was probably thinking "Don't point that Box Brownie at me, or you'll get this ice cream in your face".
But Cro....our parents used to take these pictures to...
ReplyDeleteShow our future Girlfriends....
How embrassingly cute we used to be....
They used the responses as they trawled through the pages of the album to test the suitability or not...
of our 'latest'....
to become one of the family.
Remem...rememem...ember, we had to endure the same thing at 'her' house....
not knowing why the parents...
so welcoming at the door...
suddenly became very cold and distant!
I think any girlfriend of mine would have run a mile after seeing this one! We were always told to look hard at the girl's mother, as that's what she'd turn into.... many a nice girl was dumped.
DeleteAnd the same could be said about a boy's father....
DeleteAbsolutely, which is why I never let any girl meet my father (joking).
DeleteCute! I liked the white hat too. You're not smiling, probably wondering if your ice cream will melt while the picture is been taken! If I remember well you like Magnum ice cream. Greetings Maria x
ReplyDeleteI do like Magnums, but how you know that I don't know. I suppose I must have mentioned it once. x
DeleteYou mentioned it in a comment once. I have been reading your blog for a long time Cro xx
DeleteYou have a good memory.
DeleteYou haven't changed...
ReplyDeleteBut fewer cornets these days.
DeleteI had a box brownie as my first camera. It was a no longer wanted one of my grandmothers. It had a case too and worked.
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference digital cameras have made!
DeleteDawww, so cute.
ReplyDelete'Rough-n-ready' more like.
DeleteIt looks like you might have been sitting on a beach. I like the expression on your face (less than thrilled getting your picture taken).
ReplyDeleteYou really were a cute little guy!
Yes, it was on some beach. My sister's right leg is in the background.
DeleteWell you certainly don;t look all that happy whatever you are thinking.
ReplyDeleteI always scowl at cameras.
DeletePictures were just taken on special occasions, holidays and vacations and were put in albums that took years to fill. They were a very important record for a family. That is quite a difference from today where people take hundreds (maybe thousands) of selfies of themselves in a short time. They just don't seem as precious or important anymore.
ReplyDeleteOr they get put onto a computer, then lost when it's exchanged for a new model.
DeleteWhen I think of all the photo's I discard from the digital camera's I wonder how on earth I ever took a good picture with the wind on one's.
ReplyDeleteBriony
x
Didn't we all take a roll of 24 to Boots, then pick up about 2 decent ones?
DeleteYou look how I feel.
ReplyDeleteThat's encouraging.
DeleteWe all seem to look the same in our 1950's photographs don't we Cro, be we boy or girl !!!!! We did get a great deal of pleasure from the simplest of things, and an ice cream was a bit of a treat. I have got some really horrendous photographs of me, mostly involving revolting swimming costumes !!!!! XXXX
ReplyDeleteI think I'm wearing one of those in the photo above.
DeleteYou LOOK like such a sweet little angel.
ReplyDeleteI really wasn't. I'm not kidding.
DeleteI misread and thought for a moment that you had called yourself a croquette.
ReplyDeleteWhat, like a dog biscuit?
