We SHALL be warm!
My neighbour Jean-Claude delivered our wood yesterday afternoon. 8 cu metres of good, dry, oak, split, metre-length, logs. What a beautiful sight; almost half a forest!
We should have enough for nearly 3 years, along with another 20 cu metres of chestnut already in stock.
I am told (by Claude) that the laying of alternate directions of wood at the end (extreme right), which keeps the stack upright, translates from the local Patois as a 'mallet head'.
Last year I reported that the price of oak had stayed the same for about 4 years. This year I'm almost pleased to report that it has gone up slightly..... What hasn't!

That is a fine and reassuring sight at this time of year.
ReplyDeleteDo you snap them over your knee before you put them on the fire or have you got some magnificent walk-in stone edifice fireplace that can take metre-long logs? They look magnificent...
ReplyDeleteYou see warmth Cro,I see tables!
ReplyDeleteThere's a shortage of oak 'off-cuts' here as the recession has meant fewer folk are building so fewer bits of excess wood knocking about the wood yard.
I may have to nip over and borrow a couple of oak legs :-)
You shall not freeze and you shall not starve. Once again you inspire envy in me - I long for an open fire sometimes!
ReplyDeleteT.O.W. Our fireplace could take 2 metre long logs, but we've recently fitted a wood burner that takes only 50 cm logs. My trusty Husqvarna does the hard work.
ReplyDeleteOnce the chipmunks find the stack and make homes in it the dogs will have a blast.
ReplyDeleteWhen we were in Europe i took lots of pics of woodpiles as i was fascinated at how neat they were, we have a wood shed and just stack it ready to use and while it waits the steely chainsaw it is just as the truck dumps it, you put us to shame Cro, did you stack it or the amazing Jean-Claude lol.
ReplyDeleteCan't beat a log fire. I shall miss that this year.
ReplyDeleteAll three of us Carole. Lady M, Claude, and myself. Now that the top is levelled and covered, it looks even neater!
ReplyDeleteSue. You won't be saying that as you lie in the sun on Bondi.
That sure is a nice wood pile!!! I suspect that here there will be plenty of oak wood because of the tornadoes that blew them over. I hope someone is getting good use of them. I miss the wood burning fire place at times.....
ReplyDeleteI am in awe at the magnificence of your wood pile.
ReplyDeleteLovely lovely wood...
